Are Polls Worthwhile?

This is my first attempt at composing a poll here and I was trying to think of what kind of topic I would select to have a poll about. Then it struck me that maybe it would be an idea to do a poll on polls. I must confess that I thought doing this was a good idea but then I am strange like that and I suppose the only way to see whether it was a good idea or not is to see how it works - the proof of the pudding is in the eating after all! Of course, in the future I will get round to doing some polls on more serious topics but in the meantime, and mostly because this is my first attempt at composing a poll here, I thought it might be an idea just to roll with a poll about polls. So without further ado, the question is, are polls worthwhile?

Polls are always worthwhile.

I think it all depends upon how the poll is conducted. It can be a useful tool to gauge opinions, but on certain topics where people aren't necessarily honest, it might be misleading.

I think polls can be very valuable to the person authoring the poll depending on the reason for the poll.

I haven't created a poll (yet), but I enjoy responding to them (as long as they're not the ones where they're calling me on the phone). Most of us (myself included) have a bit of a narcissistic streak, and enjoy talking about ourselves, our thoughts, our opinions, etc., and polls are an excellent way to stroke that part of our egos.

That doesn't mean that I haven't seen some really bad polls with some pretty ridiculous questions. I can't remember if it was here on PersonaPaper or somewhere else, but someone asked the question, "do you like to write?" Um....if someone didn't like to write, they wouldn't be on this website, right? I've also seen them where the choice of answers showed that the author hadn't thought it out at all before posting it. Those polls, I think, are not worthwhile at all.

I love polls. I'm a data collection person by nature, but also tend to get good responses (and more money).

I'm not much of a fan of polls, I'm sorry. But every one to their own. I don't often respond to polls unless the subject grabs me.

I like doing polls they are fun. SoundNFury is right though if people are not honest they will be misleading.

I agree, it can be misleading when people aren't necessarily honest with their responses to polls. I have seen many polls where the option of answers means it is difficult for the responder to be honest too. lol

lol I know what you mean about the 'do you like to write' question, that is amusing. Having said that, maybe there are some people who write but don't like doing it they just do it because they can. lol

I think some polls are worthwhile while others not so much. Not because they really are but because they do not apply to a certain person or group here in the site.

I believe so. But we have to be careful in choosing ones which can interest others to partcipate
