Should 'Recent Activity' be moved to its own menu item?

At this time, the Recent Activity is kept under your profile drop-down - to me, this isn't good enough. It should be, in my opinion, on its own menu item, next to our displayed name, and possibly use AJAX technology to automatically check for new activity, and when clicked, display a nice drop-down with all the recent activity, this is an easier method and certainly adds to the simplicity of the website, which is good for improving the user experience. It's also very handy for quickly getting to your notifications, particularly new ones.

Yes, it should be done Id love to access my notifications more easily

Okay, I'll admit I one who voted for "No, not necessarily," well, at least that is how I think about the issue, not really so much of the "I don't really care." The vote amounts to the same thing; the intention is just a bit different. : )

Understood. I just don't feel it works very well being an extra click away - since the point of a notification is to get your attention; well if it means you have to do an extra click to see it, it isn't really getting your attention.

Point well taken. It never hurts to consider change and with open conversations such as these, then MaeLou and elitecodex are in on the conversation, too, and can decide whether to act on the suggestions, table them, or choose a different direction.

This was brought up before and the option was too similar to another site we are trying to avoid looking like, so we decided to have it the way that it is now.

You cannot judge against another site all the time - that restricts improvement and development. Having a notification system on its own agenda is the norm, and are you really going to sacrifice user experience just to steer away from another system? Sometimes things have to be similar to make people satisfied.

I don't think we're interfering with user experience. I like the way we have it and I think it works just fine the way that it is.
