My look at Persona Paper’s potential

On Saturday August 2nd, I posted about the imminent arrival of article number 10,000 in Persona Paper and even proposed some sort of reward to the author of that post. Read my post here

At the time I thought that milestone was going to be reached over weekend, but I have now realized that the rate at which articles are posted here is a little slower than I expected. So I have made some quick calculations for fun, based on the data available and wanted to share the results with all of you.

Data Input

  1. As of August 2nd at 5:00 AM Eastern Time there were 9,643 Articles posted (Based on post's timestamp)
  2. As of August 5th at 5:00 AM Eastern Time there were 9,872 Article posted (Based on post's timestamp)

Calculation Results and Analysis

That means in 3 days a total of 229 new posts were submitted.

The average is just above 76 posts per day or roughly 3 posts per hour.

Considering that there are about 520 community members, the numbers above mean that each single member would submitting a new post every 7 days. Or, in other words, that in a given day only 15% of the members are active .

If each writer submits an average of 2 posts per day , then it is just 7% of members that is active in a given day.

Conclusions

So based on the numbers above this is what I think:

  1. The Great News is that the site has a lot of potential to increase the traffic, as most of users are dormant, and can become active in the near future. We could say that 85% of the users are very active at the moment and this is excellent news.
  2. At the current pace, Post No. 10,000 will most likely be published tomorrow August 6th at around 9 PM Eastern Time.
  3. There is nobody abusing the system in terms of continuously posting.

NOTE: These calculations are just rough observations made by me (NBaquero) for fun and are not exact as they do not take into account many other factors like daily variations, comments made, interactions, etc.

You know I did read that and thought it was a good idea, just never took it any further. Maybe 500 coins? Don't want to get too crazy but that isn't bad right? I'll make an announcement today. Sort of last minute but it is something :)

elitecodex Thanks so much for accepting my suggestion. I know, something like that (500 or so coins) it is just a token of appreciation for the author that helps the site reach this milestone. The down side is this will make the traffic pick up a little bit thus making my prediction time fail emoticon :winking:

elitecodex 500 free coins is a great gesture indeed. How about we give another 500 to nbaquero for coming up with the stats and the idea?

Awesome work here nbaquero ! This is the kind of stat and dataanalysis

Comment got cut off. Perils of mobile posting. To continue...

Awesome work here nbaquero ! This is the kind of stat and data analysis that interests me.

allen0187 thanks so much for the comment. I am content with seeing the site picking up in activity. About the numbers I share just remember this is not a full detailed analysis it was just a quick exercise I did with a couple of numbers, many factor influence the site activitity and traffic.

The key is in the money. I think once the money gets better here, so will the participation, and in THAT case you are exactly correct. The site will explode with interest and activity. But that may be a ways out yet. BECAUSE it is a revenue sharing, of course the money HAS to be considered. And as the old saying goes, sometimes you have to spend money to make money. I think if the site owners increased the revenue potential, even if in the short term they lose some of theirs, the members would not only increase in number, but so would their levels of activity. And THAT brings advertisers in as well. Win, win.

The statistics nerd in me LOVED this! I like this kind of analytics info, and I admire your optimistic take on it.

Just imagine what would happen if each member committed to making at least five posts a week and everyone would unblock their ads!

AliCanary thanks so much I know this is some nerdy stuff. emoticon :winking: Right, numbers are numbers one can select what spin to give them. I selected the optimistic one.

nbaquero wrote on August 6, 2014, 4:14 AM

Barbrad I am sure the site will pick up little by little as long as there are commited writers.

AliCanary wrote on August 6, 2014, 5:26 AM

I never realized that using an adblocker would make my views not register, but fortunately, they let you unblock ads for any particular domain, so I've done that for this site (it was another site that I needed the blocker for, anyway).

Porwest I didn't put too much into these statistics, just a couple of simple calculations, I agree Money is an important factor when looking at the site utilization and traffic in detail. I hope as you stated that monetary pay is increased soon.

BarbRad wrote on August 6, 2014, 1:06 PM

I understand that. It's that other site that forces me to keep my speakers at lowest volume so I am not startled by those annoying videos. I don't get disturbed, and the ads still aren't blocked. It works for me. And I thank you.
