All kinds of techie stuff

Yesterday I spent most of the day indoors as I was doing a lot of techie stuff, not all my activities were successful though, but I made some progress.

So I remember that AdrienneJenkins suggested in this post we could also try to use Persona Paper as a tracking place for our activities and hobbies, that is what I am doing now.

I am listing my activities, for future reference, which I think is a great use for this site as well.

List of Activites 08/02/14

  1. Connect old Cannon Scanner N670U to a Windows 8 computer.

It turns our Canon doesn't have the drivers for Win 8 and the only way to make it work is by purchasing a 3rd Party Software.

  1. Connect HP Deskjet D1660 Printer to PC to Linux Mint Laptop.

It worked like a charm, it was just plug and play, since I had already installed the HPLIP utility, it took only a minute or so. Need to buy ink.

  1. Test Tethered USB Internet Connection with Android Phone.

It worked with Linux Mint but not with Windows 8 o XP.

  1. Fix old Desktop computer running Win XP.

It was getting stuck during the boot up sequence. The issue turned out to be the RAM memory was installed on the wrong slot. It is now working but this particular computer has only 512 MB, so it is very slow.

  1. Test Microsof Remote Desktop App for Android.

I was able to connect to a laptop running Windows-XP from an Android Tablet, but not to the one running Win 8. Still work in progress.

End of List

As you can see I can have my own computer repair shop emoticon :winking:

How did you spend your Saturday?

I am losing the will to live with my windows 8 laptop! nothing works as it should and every time I fix the problem it just happens again so I have given up. I have made the situation worse by getting a new router, took me two weeks to get the wireless printer working again, I can now print but not scan and I really needed to scan something earlier as well.

Too bad you don't live next door to me. Then I wouldn't have to haul my PC into the shop when it has problems. I could just call you :)

melody23 from what I've seen Win8 is not better than Win7. I think Microsoft was just looking to sell more licenses and not really developed a great product. Before one could buy a device and just "plug and play" now you "plug and pray" emoticon :winking:

I am seriously considering trading it in, apparently until October you can still buy windows 7 which I didn't like much either but its got to be better than this.

Windows 8 looks smart and modern, with all these apps and whatever but none of mine (not one single one) work! I have fixed this problem umpteen times and it just comes back again so I have given up. I had a Skype interview yesterday and I had to go and download the old fashioned version of Skype because the app doesn't work.
