I'm Somewhat Alarmed

Persona Paper obviously needs to find sources of ad revenue and the more lucrative the better. I think we do need to be very careful about which ones are allowed, though. I've been constantly pestered this morning by one that goes far beyond advertising and is in effect a browser hijacker - malicious software, in other words. Very often, when I try to click on a link, I'm redirected instead to a page splashed with Internet Explorer logos that tells me I need to update my media player.

Well, I don't need to update my media player. That's done automatically for me, by Windows Update. Even if I did need to update it I certainly wouldn't do so from a site with an anonymous URL that's fraudulently using the IE logo to make itself look legitimate. Please let's be selective, stick to reputable advertisers and get these scammers thrown out. As far as I'm concerned anything that tries to take control of your browser is not legitimate software and its creators should be in jail. Or a scorpion pit.

Yes, we must be careful what is clicked. I think elitecodex posted about being careful around ads such as that - my memory isn't what it once was, however...

A BIG scorpion pit and doused in gasoline and give the scorpions matches.

No, he's right. Chitika is no damn good and I'm the one at fault for telling Ashley about them. I'll always regret it.

I agree, we need to identify these advertisers and remove the network responsible. I'll be making a post about it shortly as I feel we need to take a different approach other than the one we currently have.

Oh good, it was them and not Qadabra. I was responsible for that (I think). Don't hunch your shoulders to the past, Don.

PS: I don't mean Oh, know... Acck.

Affiliate Marketing????? maybe???

If you've been having issues with Qadabra ads, can you please have Heather email me? Otherwise I'll wait for your post here :)

I'm not so sure it is Chitika.. it could be any of the 3 advertising companies.

MaeLou wrote on August 1, 2014, 1:59 PM

We don't know which ads are responsible unfortunately. But, qadabra definitely isn't working out like we hoped they would, same with Chitika.. we just aren't having much luck at all around here.

Okay. Maybe I'm wrong. I'm still bitter over them. :)

LoudMan wrote on August 1, 2014, 3:44 PM

You'll get it. No doubt.

I'm with Don. You'll get there - we are standing behind you, 110% emoticon  :)

I vote for scorpion pit. Plus, perhaps a couple of black mambas and king cobras for good measure.

A better punishment would make them all go and write for Bubble Ooze!

That one has smacked me up a few times, too, and it's good that you posted about it, so that people will know to be cautious about "updates"--the best rule of thumb is that you should ONLY download stuff that YOU went looking for, not stuff that came looking for YOU!

This happens to me all the time. I am constantly clicking off these ads that try to pop up. It really is annoying , but what am I to do? I am trying to write here so I can hopefully hit the 20 dollar cash out. I am trying to express myself and make a little money.
