Dragon Flies

These are all the dragon fly photos I've taken the last few months. The first one here was the first dragon fly I spotted while at a friend's house. I may have posted about it already, but he's cool enough to include in the montage. :)

This one is not a great photo, but he was a cool dragon fly nonetheless. It was taken on one of our dogwood trees through my living room window.

These two I saw today when I came home. I noticed this blue one first because of the color. I'd never seen a blue one in person before. It was very cool to get a photo of one.

And this one I noticed after seeing the blue one. I like his colorings and markings as well. He may be the same type as the first one up there. I'm not sure. I don't really know anything much about dragon flies except that they are totally cool to look at.

I hope y'all enjoyed the pics!

I only seem to be able to photograph Dragonflies when they are at rest...they move so damn fast! lol As usual nice pics!

I like how close up the pictures are. You can see where the wings connect to the back and everything. I find that fascinating.

What a great dragonfly photo collection. I hardly ever see them here. I didn't know there were so many different species.

Lovely photos, dragonflies are hard to photograph. I don't have any photos as nice as those!

wow, those are just great photographs. I never see them still enough to photograph

Absolutely beautiful close up photos of your dragon flies. The close ups is so clear and can see right through their delicate wings. We have one that keeps coming on our porch on sunny days we can see its beautiful colorings. I hope to get a photo of it too. I just need a good camera and know how to use it. It is so much fun to photograph.

I like the sound they make with their wings. I too have them in my garden but not as many as there were earlier.

Beautiful. Well caught. They do come in a wide variety of colours. Love them.

I love the blue and green one! I've seen a few of those myself, but it was literally decades ago. I've been wondering if they are less common now than they once were.

Wow! I love dragonflies! We have them around our pool.

AngelSharum wrote on July 31, 2014, 8:55 PM

Thanks. I can't get photos of them flying either. They really are quick. I love them sitting still though.

I had my longer 75-250mm lens on the camera, thank goodness. I'm really loving it for these kind of shots.

AngelSharum wrote on July 31, 2014, 8:56 PM

There are even more than this. A friend posted 8 different kind in our Facebook group I believe. I was glad to see a blue one for the first time.

AngelSharum wrote on July 31, 2014, 8:57 PM

I have only been able to get good shots since getting the longer lens. I hope you catch a good shot.

AngelSharum wrote on July 31, 2014, 8:58 PM

Yeah, I imagine they are around water more often than not. This was the first time I've seen either of this type here.

WHAT DO YOU MEAN PICTURE NUMBER TWO ISN'T A GOOD PICTURE?

It's FANTASTIC! You caught him with his wings going! WHO DOES THAT? That's the best one!

AngelSharum wrote on July 31, 2014, 10:38 PM

It's just not as sharp and detailed as the others. He is cool looking though, being almost see through. I'm glad you ike it.

SandraLPetersen wrote on August 2, 2014, 8:29 AM

Those are fantastic photos, Angel! Such variety in the world of dragonflies! I've seen those blue-bodied dragonflies where I live hovering among the cattails and over quiet lake water. I've tried to capture their images but my camera isn't very good and I get blurs. I have only one decent dragonfly photo and that was because he was resting on one of my tomatoes last year.

AngelSharum wrote on August 2, 2014, 10:47 AM

I haven't got any of them actually flying either. The second one up there of him coming to land is the closest.

Feisty56 wrote on August 2, 2014, 6:57 PM

Really great photos here! Are you selling your photography work anywhere right now?

AngelSharum wrote on August 2, 2014, 7:31 PM

I do sell some of my photos on Fineartamerica.com, Zazzle, and viewbug.

I used to have a phobia about dragonflies. When I was a kid, I thought they attacked humans! My fears eased off when I learned they prefer to eat mosquito larvae.

Great pics! You're far too modest about your talent with a camera!

AngelSharum wrote on October 8, 2014, 10:11 AM

Awww, thanks! I'm learning and trying to improve all the time. I would love to see more dragonflies.
