The Gardens at Veris Cellars in Paso Robles

Since I don't drink wine, though I live in the midst of wine county, I tend to judge wineries and tasting rooms by the attractiveness of their settings and the photographic opportunities. Veris Cellars has got to be in the running for one of the most beautiful. It's family owned, and from the outside, it really does look like someone's historic home. It began in 1990 under the name Jan Kris Winery. That's about three years before I moved to Templeton.

I took the photo.

By the time I started haunting the local vineyards, Veris belonged to Matthew Talbert, who had owned it since 2008. If you actually walk inside, you will find a very friendly staff and they will make you feel right at home. In connection with their Ben Hogan label, Veris offers something I haven't seen in any other area winery – a golf driving range where you can drive golf balls right into the vineyard. Their web site says it's the only place in California you can “drink and drive.” That's one reason I only walk in the vineyards when the tasting room is closed.

But I digress. I was going to show you the beauty of the Veris Cellars Rose Garden and some of the other floral plantings. And then there is the oak tree – the giant oak that almost blocks the view of the lovely restored Victorian farmhouse. I will show you some views of that before we get to the rose garden proper.

I took the photo.

This next one is looking back at the tasting room and tree from near the rose garden. That's lavender in the foreground.

I took the photo.

Now let's look at the rose garden.

I took the photo.

If you walk under this arbor you will be heading into one of the vineyards. But we will look at the vineyards in a separate post. Stay tuned. Be sure to read what's at the top of the arbor.

I took the photo.

If you would like to own such a beautiful piece of real estate and build your own thriving tasting room and winery, I just discovered Veris Cellars is for sale again. Can you imagine having this beauty around you all the time? Can you imagine the work to keep it looking gorgeous all year?

Did you forget to include the photos? Only one is showing..

They are there now. You got here too soon. I was taking someone's advice to load the text first and then edit to put the photos in. That seems to keep the captcha error away. And I forget to tag LoudMan for the contest, too. I hope he'll let me know if it will still count with this tag in the comment.

Beautiful pictures. The scenery and the wine together should be better than therapy

Oh, my those photos are just stunning (all six of them!) and I love, love, love the golf bit. Since I don't drink either, I'll just have to drive off the tee more in addition to my designated driving. Wonderful!

I find the scenery is therapy enough.

I don't do golf, but I've watched others, including kids, use the driving range when I was waiting to use it as a place to take photos from. It has a very scenic view.

Aha. Now I see them, and stunning they are. They must have a full time gardener to keep it so neat and tidy. Lovely.
BTW - Re. the Captcha issue - Write your text, place your pictures, press Submit. Then, when confronted with the Captcha screen, REFRESH it. Do not use it 'cold' It will save you submitting and then re-editing. :)

Thanks for the hint. One of the few thing I like about the Bubblews update is that they got rid of the captcha. I remember it used to do the same thing there on photo essays.

That is a very beautiful place. I like the old house and I love the gardens and flowers.

I love those colors. There's not much a comment could add to a splash of color like this.

LoudMan but can tagging you here still enter me in the contest? I forgot all the tags when I posted.

The rose gardens are so lovely. I particularly like how it is in a circular walk through. I cannot wait till we build our adds to our house, then we can go full blast creating new gardens. What fun. The arch way sign is so funny "wine is cheaper than therapy". I too don't drink wine very often. I do like the blackberry though. I learned in Italy I only like the el cheapo. The expensive they kept serving was not tasty. I cannot stand the taste of beer or liquor of any kind. Just the blackberry.

The only times I've had wine were when I was out with friends and it was part of the cost of the meals. Even then, I normally skipped the champagne and opted for orange juice with brunch buffets. I had wine at a small Italian restaurant when I went out to lunch sometimes with coworkers. It came free with the meal and cola didn't. We always walked to and from.
