Goodbye Y!CN

Yahoo! Contributor Network is coming to an end. Some people have complained that it was what Yahoo! intended to do with Associated Content ever since they bought it.

I don't think it is true that it was their original intent.

I am not angry about them closing. I am sad. It is true that I will have to look for other sources of income for myself. However, I am not putting the blame on Yahoo!

Ever since I joined in 2007, I have had a good time writing there. I met many great writers and am glad that they are now my friends. Writing for Associated Content and then Yahoo! forced me to learn SEO techniques and I found that I honestly love knowing SEO techniques. If it hadn't been for these companies, I never would have learned those things.

Of course, I wrote more than I used SEO. However, I did use SEO. In articles where I made sure to use SEO, I did quite well most of the time. Other times, the competition was just too high.

I'm sure that I will end up publishing articles here because I am not sure where to house other content where I can get some type of payment. I will probably want to write new articles for some places that I end up finding, too.

I will also be focusing on my schooling, God willing that it happens.

Mostly, I'm sad and nostalgic. I am also thankful for all the writer friends that I have made over the years. I only wish that Y!CN didn't have to end.

It seems that many writing websites that pay writers for their contributions had stopped paying but there are also many new ones cropping up so I guess, you will still have some place to write and earn. I don't know if Yahoo intended to stop paying but I suspect that could be their intentions all along. Who's to say?

Oh my gosh, is it officially gone now? I'm sad to go and look even though I've logged in everyday just because; I wrote there for about 2.5 years and I loved it. :(

Tell me, by the time they closed, did they ever figure out how to not send people those little oopsie bonus payments to then squawk how they needed everyone to send them back? Did they ever find a way to not jack with people's pay there? Did they find an editor who wasn't drunk? There were some great writers and some awesome people there, sure. But there were also several morons - much like the rest of life I suppose. Their intention WAS to rip it all apart, though, whether anyone believes so or not.

Did that actually happen at one point? Where they gave money then demanded it back? That never happened to me, I guess, yea, they quit doing that lol.

Did it actually happen? are you joking or were you just not paying attention? It happened to several of us. It happened to me one time and I refunded it but told them if they d it again, I keep it. Never happened again. Others, they did it to again and again and again to the point one gal kept it and they removed her. That's when I had a drunken melt-down in their forums and they removed me and years of my own content. I'm glad they're closing. My heart is ELATED that their closing.

Almost everything on the net goes away after five years or so. I recall AT&T paying 100 million to purchase the Imagination Network then driving it into the ground.

Wow... am I the only one who noticed that I am not the only one with ADD LOL

Don't worry, I usually have the same number of tabs open at once.

Wait... SQUIRREL !

In all seriousness, I never wrote for there but I can see how people would be sad to see it go. Maybe you can train me a little on SEO? I know I need it...

I don't think it was their intention from the start. I've got this and Bubblews. I don't like having to deal with tons of images like Squidoo or HubPages. Hopefully I'll get into graduate school and then once I graduate from that, I'll be able to teach. I could never stop writing, but having a different job would be a good thing.

The last that I looked, it was still up at the moment. However, I think they are taking it all down on the work day of Aug. 1, 2014. It was my home since 2007, so it is really sad for me.

They never asked me for any money back. I had some problems with editors "fixing" words at times, but it wasn't THAT bad. I didn't have all those problems. I honestly don't think it was their intention at the set to take down the site.

bridgetidelaney wrote on August 1, 2014, 1:58 AM

I never had them ask me for money back, either.

bridgetidelaney wrote on August 1, 2014, 1:59 AM

I don't know anything about that.

There are plenty of SEO tutorials out there. I love SEO, but I don't do SEO training for free by now because everybody THINKS they know it.
