I'm Going to Be a Mystery Shopping Superstar
Years ago, a friend of mine worked in the corporate offices of Pizza Hut, a pizza chain. She asked me to mystery shop one location that had been having issues. That is, I would go in with my kids, enjoy lunch, observe service, ask some questions that the staff should know, then leave and answer some questions for the corporate office.
I got a free lunch with the kids at a place I ate anyway, I made a few bucks for my time, and I (hope) I helped to improve a business I frequented.
I've just started signing up to be a mystery shopper for a variety of companies. So far, I've signed up for three. In about 2-week time, two of the companies have bombarded me for shops I don't qualify for which gives me little faith in their operation. They have my zip code and state on the information they send me, but they send me info on shops wherein I have to live in a specific location. It doesn't make sense.
I've received three assignments from one of the three companies, however. Tomorrow is my third shop.
I'm certainly earning less than minimum wage on these right now, but that's just because of the learning curve. And sometimes, you have to consider perks when you consider wages, and the perk on tomorrows shop will put me way ahead in terms of how much it's worth.
I can' talk about specifics at this point, but I'm evaluating a service for something I really need. In fact, it was something I was going to do this week anyway, and it would have cost me about $40. I'm getting it free, and I'm earning $20. That's a good day, I think.
This week, I hope to apply to at least 10 more shops so that I have a variety of options to choose from. Do I have any mystery shoppers here? What has been your best perk? What has been your top payment? What are your gripes?
