Good old Jamaican remedy for coughs, colds, sore throats and chest infections.

My dad tells me that my great great granny was a healer in Jamaica, that she would throw herbs together to make lotions and potions to help ail others problems,

I have been told by psychic mediums twice that i have this healing energy and that i need to be doing healing work, I haven't as yet but i can share this tip that my dad gave me.

For coughs, colds, sore throats, chest infections he just uses one ingredient, and that ingredient is honey, just simple honey, any honey. He has only needed antibiotics a few times in his life.

Please note in the UK doctors will advise you not to give babies honey until they are over 1 years old, but in Jamaica it is used straight from birth if needed, and i have also used on both of my children before they were one years old and they were fine.

I'm not claiming honey will cure these problems, just help them, i do believe that sometimes antibiotics and main stream drugs are needed but you could try the honey first, but always consult your doctor if things get too bad.

For a simple cold, just squeeze a few drops of a lemon or a lime into a cup, add a teaspoon or two of brown sugar and fill up the cup with hot boiled water, add as much honey as you like, i usually add two tablespoons.I tend to sip it hot as then it helps a little with congestion.

For sore throats, you could try the above with a little more honey or what works best for me is to just eat 2 or three tablespoons of honey straight from the jar when my throat is really bad then it seems to soothe it.

For coughs and chest infections, right at the beginning when you are just beginning to cough too much, start to eat 2 or 3 tablespoons of honey straight from the jar, i have tried this and what it does is makes you cough more and somehow helps bring us more mucus from the chest.

In children it can make them vomit which is also one of the bodies way to remove mucus from the body.

Depending on your immune system and how long into your illness you start this honey remedy you may still need to visit your doctor to get antibiotics.

Honey also will not lower a temperature so you will still need to treat that.

Also a doctor once told me that if you are prone to chest infections or pneumonia never to take cough medicines because the coughing is the bodies way of getting rid of the bad stuff, so if you suppress that then it becomes harder to remove all that mucus.

I love honey. I try to take a spoon full of it every morning in a glass of warm water before I start my day.

Yea, here in the Philippines, honey and lemon or "calamansi" is really recommended. Not just by the elderly but sometimes by the doctors, too. And I have proved it by myself already. Nice post. Thanks for sharing.

I am sick all the time, so in all my research I have come across this fact about honey! :) I tried it in my hot tea, but I don't like the taste. But for some odd reason I do enjoy it when I mix it in plain yogurt. So when I get my many colds I use hot tea and yogurt with honey to try and get better.

Some good home remedies. I did not know too much honey could make you vomit, which can be a very good thing when mucous builds up. Too much use of antibiotics has caused viruses to mutate to untameable bugs and, in my opinion should be used as a last resort.
