How I Decide Who to Follow

I hate to break it to you, but I don"t follow everyone who follows me. On top of that, I do follow a few writers here who don't follow me, and that's okay with me.

Here are some of my criteria for following writers:

1) I read some of their articles. One really bad piece doesn't mean the writer is bad. Everyone has written a few stinkers.

2) If you've read any of my posts, you probably know that I love grammar, punctuation, and good spelling. They're a huge turn-on for me. Inversely, something that is very poorly written (i.e. garbled, run-on sentence) A while back I tried to read an e-book that had an excellent story line but the writing was horrible. It was so bad, in fact, that I emailed the author with an offer to edit the book.

3) Despite criteria , I will follow someone with really good ideas and thoughts, even if the writing isn't great. This holds true for some of the writers here whose native is not English.

In short, capture my interest or imagination and I'll follow you.

I agree with you. Just because someone follows me doesn't mean I'll follow them back. It's a person's choice as to who they should follow so they shouldn't feel obliged to follow someone just because that person followed them.

I can't argue with any of that Mysgeek . I see on my feed that people respond to my posts here and there and am delighted that they have troubled themselves to respond. The follow button is a little used feature for me, That might be to my own detriment; Is there any advantage to following someone?

FreyaYuki Exactly. I like to be supportive of other writers, but there's a limit.

Fractal As far as I know the only advantage of following someone is that you get a coin when you comment on someone's article.

I agree with you. On that other site, I follow 50 people and I have several hundred followers. I'll probably follow more people here because the writing is better.

I don't know if I can define any hard and fast rules for who I follow. It's a mixed bag of nuts. It's just as difficult to define why I wouldn't follow someone too. We're complicated beings, we humans.

LoudMan Neither do I. mine are mushy and slow, and subject to change on a whim

You don't have to tell me. You're literally across the room from me. haha.

I don't have any real rules but one - I don't like feeling obligated. I simply like to read others and for the enjoyment of it. :) YAY :)
