The 2014 Tour de France speaks Italian

With just two more stages to go, the Italian rider Vincenzo Nibali , nicknamed The Shark , is the virtual Champion at the 2014 Tour de France , the biggest race in professional cycling.

Nibali has been so dominant this year that his advantage over the the second placed rider is 7 minutes and 10 seconds, almost an eternity in terms of road cycling. On top of that, he has won four stages this year, a clear signal of his strength.

He will be the first Italian to win the Tour de France since the late Marco Pantani won in 1998.

Barring any catastrophe Nibali will win on Sunday in Paris giving Italy its tenth victory at the French race and becoming only the sixth rider in history to have won all three Grand Tours in professional cycling, Tour de France (2014), Giro d’Italia (2013) and Vuelta a España (2010) .

In my opinion cycling is one of the most grueling and difficult sports, and winning one of the three Grand Tours is a remarkable feat, let alone winning all three of them. Congratulations Nibali .

Are you into cycling? What is your favorite rider?

UPDATE: As of July 27th Vincenzo Nibali has officially won the 2014 Tour de France. Congratulations!
