Why do we need a hobby?

There could be so many other answers to this question but for me it is to improve our health.

This response is so sharp that turns hobby into something more than a hobby, and indeed is something far more important that other reasons we may have for a hobby.

A hobby is something we do because we like it and it gives us pleasure. And, amid the daily demands from our work, our family, our lifestyle, we dedicate time and effort to this activity like taking a "mental vacation" for ourselves.

It’s always a good choice to be away from worries for a while and turn our attention to a self-rewarding activity, which has a positive influence on mental and physical health (in the case of a sport, for example).

These are the reasons why many health professionals recommend practicing a hobby especially those that keeps us active and fit.

It will never be too late to involve ourselves to a new hobby and we can always find activities that may be performed whatever the personal circumstances we have. Painting, reading, writing, playing an instrument, doing crafts, collecting something, dancing, etc. There are hobbies for everyone.

However, do not count as hobbies activities such as napping, eating or scratching head. These can become hobbies since it gives us pleasure but will not give us benefits. Why not do hobbies that require development of complex skills, ie, they are linked to learning and personal development.

I guess my main hobby is gardening. But scratching my head is a close second. LOL
