Republicans Say the Stupidest Things Part 4: Louie Gohmert Taxing the Poor

Yet another installment of "Republicans Say the Stupidest Things" where I'm referring to Louie Gohmert.

On January 28, 2014, while referring to taxing the poor he said, “What if you're so poor the only money you have is what the government gives you? And I've wondered, you know, isn't that wasted money, you give it and you take it back? No, it gives you an investment in the country. And we need that.”

Sure. After all, all those mythical "welfare queens" out there are hoarding their money for frivolous things like rent, utilities, and shoes and clothing for their kids; unlike those poor churches with multi-million dollar cathedrals, corporations that pay almost no taxes and have merchandise manufactured overseas, and millionaires (and beyond) who hide money in offshore accounts and can barely afford elevators for their cars in their second or third houses. Shame on the poor for being poor.

I do not follow politics in America but I know almost all political parties have some short falls

I think that the people who make these dumb comments are just speaking from their frame of reference. They are so far removed from anyone with less than they have that they can't possibly understand. They get in trouble for saying this kind of stuff in public but no one in their social circles are offended by it.
