What's your favorite flower?

In the summer, there are so many different flowers blooming that it's a visual feast for the eyes. Mother Nature is at her blooming best! And if you're like me, it's not easy to pick a favorite flower.

On a side note ... I would have created this as a poll (since I love polls!) but then I couldn't add a photo to it. And there's no way we can talk about flowers without having a photo of one ... right?

At any rate, for many people, the favorite is the rose. For others, it's pansies. For still others, it's daisies or zinnias, mums or iris ... well, we could go on almost forever.

Flowers bring joy, give fragrance, and brighten our days. We carry flowers at weddings, send flowers to loved ones, give flowers for birthdays, and even use them to say, "I'm sorry."

That's a pretty big contribution for something that's around for only a few months of the year. And maybe that's why there are so many poems written about flowers.

(So how about you? What's your favorite flower?)

I like sunflowers. They are too big to be considered delicately beautiful. They are awkward. While other flowers are valued because they are nearly impossible to grow, sunflowers require very little attention and when left alone will grow into tall stalks with wide, sunny blooms that make you smile - and they provide important food for birds and squirrels. A rose smells heavenly, but it may be a bit too fastidious for me.

I love all flowers but I'd have to say my favorite is the daisy. I love the white ones with yellow in the center best. The simplicity strikes me.

I'm not sure I could pick a favourite flower. I love flowers. I think my favourite scent is rose though, so I'll have to go with the rose as my favourite flower. I must confess that I don't much care for hot-house roses though...they have very little scent!

Roses. But I care for others as well. I have many in my garden.

Lilies are my favorite, because there are So Many varieties. The most popular are probably the Tiger Lilies which are of orange in color, but there are so many more like the Stargazers with mixtures of pink, Easter Lilies white as can be, Bonbini is a white variety that has a pink star outline filled with a yellow in it's center... Well you get my point :)

Oooo, I love sunflowers, too. They grow with out much water and are such happy flowers. The birds love them, too, in the fall. :)

I could be wrong but I think you're describing Shasta daisies. They have a vanilla fragrance early in the morning, that is so cool. :) And daisies last so much longer as cut flowers than many others.

Platespinner ... I have a rose that blooms in front of my front porch. It's a peachy color and has the fragrance of fresh raspberries. So yummy! And you're right in that hot house roses don't have much fragrance. I think they've probably hybridized them to the point where the last well and don't have many thorns, but the fragrance has gone missing.

Roses are wonderful because they come in so many colors and types. Along my white fence I have a rose named "Dolly Parton." Not sure why it's named after Dolly, but it is. Anyway, it is a beautiful, true, deep-red and looks so beautiful against the white fence.

Ooo, yes, I love lilies too. The Easter lilies smell wonderful, and the Tiger Lilies are so easy to grow, but the Stargazers are my favorite lily. Love that mix of pink and white, and their star shape. Plus, they smell yummy! Yup, we could talk for a long time about lilies! :)

But roses need a lot of care and attention. They just vanish sometimes. I have created posts on roses in my garden. Here's one:

I have not one but several: gardenia, jasmine, lilies of the valley, wild violets and pansies.

I posted an article with a photo of my favorite kind of daisy yesterday. Not sure if you saw it yet.

Nice shot! Yes, those are Shasta daisies we're talking about. :)

Can't go wrong with any of those! Love the smell of jasmine and gardenia on a warm summer night. And pansies are definitely one of my favorites. They're such happy flowers. :)

Fancy roses like the one in the picture may be delicate. Rosa rugosa, which are what I have, are hard to kill. Being eaten down to ground level by goats merely motivates them to try harder.
