How to Archive Your Posts From Yahoo Voices / Associated Content Using Evernote

Word on the street is that Yahoo Voices is calling it quits. If you have content on the site, you have until the end of the month until the Yahoo Contributor Network is shut down for good on July 31st, 2014. At that time, the content will be deleted forever.

The only content that you don't have rights to take elsewhere is "content you provided to Yahoo under a work for hire license". I'm assuming that it's content that Yahoo made an upfront payment to own exclusive rights in perpetuity and/or for use on one of their partner sites.

Some people will be copying and pasting content into Word.

Another way to do it is to use a cloud storage solution using the digital notebook Evernote. It's free to use until you use up a certain amount of storage space. For details click here . It's a great program for archiving all of your content in one place.

Did You Ever Write For Yahoo?

One year as one of their top contributors, they even sent me their thick Yahoo Style Guide which will now be obsolete. Wonder if it will ever be a collector's item? For the story of how I got started on Associated Content back in 2008, my first paid to write site, click here .

I'll be penning a lil something 'bout this soon, too. Been having a couple off days :( Hoping to be upright tomorrow! Today's YCN email was...twisty...

Thank you, for the info and the shoutout!! I will look at the site to see how difficult it is for me to figure out!!

AdrienneJenkins I tried getting on Yahoo Voices but they were too strict and besides, Yahoo is not that great. I don't have to worry about getting any content off there. I always keep copies of everything I write online. So if a site ever closed down, I will always have my work.

Hi Adrienne,
I just posted about this too, but I gave you credit for me finding out, via a post on that other website.
I also used Evernote to capture all my posts on Yahoo. It was easy and fast.

I got a Style Guide, too, although unfortunately the delivery left it outside in the rain :/ It's not in bad shape, though--I'll read it at some point! JanetHunt advised me that they have a download button, so I don't think we will need to copy and paste (I already have most of my articles saved, fortunately).

Thanks for the link, too! :D

Couldn't have happened to a nicer bunch of folks. With the way they treated some of us, I'm not only glad they're done, I'm forever proud to have gone into an angry, drunken rant once in their forums for their "little games" they liked to play in sending out those extra "oopsie" payments, to then treat writers badly over their ****.

What comes around, goes around. You know this.

Useful tip. I am saving mine to my hard drive in a folder within my Google Drive which is synced to the cloud. I imagine it's similar, all saved and also backed up.

AdrienneJenkins wrote on July 4, 2014, 10:04 AM

I'll have to check out that download button and see which is the better way to save my posts.

Do you have any posts about Google Drive? I'd like to read more about it.
