Preparing for a storm - part 1

The one thing that all of us will have to deal with no matter where we live is inclement weather.

Sometimes that weather may just be a rainstorm, other times it could be a hurricane or tornado. No matter type of storm you may have to deal with it is a good idea to be prepared in advance.

I live in Florida which puts me in hurricane country. Add to that the fact that I lost my home in 1992 to hurricane Andrew and you will understand why I have some storm supplies.

One of my latest additions is my emergency radio. The little radio in the picture is one of the neatest little things I own. It only cost me about $50 but here is what it brings me.

A crank/solar/battery pwered AM/ FM/ SW1 & 2/Weather radio

A crank/solar/battery cell phone charger via USB.

An emergency red flashing light, SOS signal, flashlight, and reading light

This is a very handy tool. I may never use it, but if I need it I will be very glad I have it.

The radio is a Kaito Solarcrank KA500.

I agree with you on this climate issue and the emergency red flashing light, SOS signal, flashlight, and reading light thing

You've got to be prepared in FLA :) I spent 6 years there, through some doozies; stayed for some, evacuated for some, boarded for others. Weather doesn't mess around, no matter where you are. Love the radio and good for you :)

A good item to have in an emergency!

I should have bought something like that when I lived in Guam.

I am sure you will appreciate it a lot more, should you ever need it. Lets hope you don't.

That's pretty cool. And, those storms are among the many reasons I will never live in Florida and one of the reasons I miss living in AZ and UT where they are rare.

Did you purchase your radio in a big box national store? If so, which one. I want to take one or two of these back to Indonesia with me.

Everyone should have some sort of emergency kit, no matter where they live.
