Tales from the Coop--June 15

t’s me, Midnight, the hen again.

I can’t believe it, I absolutely can NOT believe it.

There are four nesting boxes for us to use. That should be plenty. You would think. This morning when I went into the coop to pop out my daily egg my favourite nesting box was already in use. Guin (or was it Nona--I have trouble telling which barred rock is which) and Omelet were both squished into MY nesting box. The nerve!

I clucked at them, they ignored me. I squawked, they continued to ignore me. Finally I couldn’t wait any longer and dropped my egg right there on the floor of the coop. Smash.

Oops. It would never have happened if those inconsiderate cluck-heads weren’t in my nesting box. Sheesh!

The image is my own.

momathome I can't imagine what they were thinking--the discourteous feather brains!

Dang. We had a fox come and take our birds a few weeks ago. Not the same without them.

Don't let on to management that I know....but I'm pretty sure all our eggs get smashed. I've seen the evidence.

That's a shame BNelson ! We've lost one pullet to a raccoon and one to bullying in the last couple of months. Our neighbours lost all of theirs to coyotes a couple of years ago.
