Look Around You! You Might be Surprised What You See

A friend of mine lives just a few miles away in Nelson County, Virginia. She often takes little hikes into her yard and its surroundings, being very observant and photographing not only the local flora and fauna, but also the rocks, arrowheads, and anything else that draws her interest. Recently, she discovered a simple toad sitting still nearby and she took a snapshot of it from the front and from the rear.

This toad is particularly attractive as toads go, and its mouth seems peculiarly of interest. Is it whistling? Is it suggesting it wants to be kissed, as the old fable suggests, to be turned into a prince?

Its light coloration suggests it is a female Fowler Toad, AKA Bufo Anaxyrus fowleri . Do you agree?

Lovely photo. As you suggest, its face has an expression. and it does look like it wants to be kissed but I am not volunteering!

I think the old croaker was posing to be on the web. He looks better than many other Fowlers I've seen.

I don't think we have that toad in the UK but we certainly have toads!

My kids love 'em. Kind of like the boys on old TV shows and the movies.
