Back To School

April 12th 2021
All schoolchildren can now go back to school from today. One of my granddaughters goes back to her school for the first time in over 4 months today. She has been out of school since before Christmas 2020, with all schools closed. The younger children went back a few weeks ago and the exam classes went back after that. Now her class is back in along with any other classes that had not already returned.
They have been told they must wear masks all day, including in the classroom which I think is dreadful for kids, especially teens. It will play havoc with their skin and it's very isolating for teens. For the last number of months, they have been learning online, through Google Classroom. It has worked OK for her but not for all kids. Those with no computer at home were able to borrow laptops but not all kids can work that way.
Future
We will just have to wait and see how they react to being back in school. I think for most it will be a relief but some kids will be afraid to go out! Some have not been allowed out at all and this will be the first they are leaving the house.

Our local Dallas Public Library, Dallas, TX USA, is also a public school for elementary students, connected to the library and has some students in attendance but a lot of them continue to do distance learning at home on their tablets, cellphones and computers. The public library is still closed to the public and we obtain our items, books, DVDs and other items, at the parking lot by calling-in first and waiting for a librarian to walk to our vehicle to drop off those items. We hope that once we achieve a better level of vaccinated people in our nation, we will be able to once again, open public schools and public libraries within the months following Joe Biden's July 4th deadline for returning to the new normal.
