I HAVE BEEN OBSESSED WITH COVID-19
Covid-19 is still with us. The US has passed the 500,000 milestone for Covid-19 related deaths and now we have variants to deal with.
It is a fact that, after finally getting 3 major pharmaceutical companies to provide a viable vaccine to fight against Covid-19 I think I see a light at the end of the long dark tunnel.
We here in the US have 3 - FDA approved vaccines and so far only a fraction of the over 330 million population have received their 2-shot doses from mainly Moderna & Pfizer. But today we now have a 3rd option, the Johnson&Johnson Covid-19 vaccine.
I think that it will go smoothly. Already restaurants are at, in many states, at about 50% capacity. Public schools are still having trouble making decisions to re-open due to legislative arguments for or against allowing Teachers to have to be first vaccinated before going back to work in the schools themselves. The GOP want to re-open schools but must realize that masking, social distancing and getting tested NEGATIVE first and getting the 2-step vaccine first should be a National Mandate. But many, especially Union Members, are not that confident. We have to realize that America had the largest PER CAPITA death rate to COVID-19 than any other developed nation on the earth. Why do you suppose that is the case? I won't get into the politics of it.
But you already know the answer to why we had the highest mortality rates and had so many open MASS SPREADER EVENTS - Political Rallies and Public Demonstrations.
It will get better. Rely not on the limits of politicians but the affirmations of SCIENCE.

Science currently has been getting into the realms of religion! There has been no open debate on the pros and cons of the actions governments have taken and the removal of rights and freedoms that people have had for hundreds of years. While some scientists have pushed for lockdowns, others have been very much against them. Yet the mass media has not published the opinions and facts put forward by those equally learned academics on the perils and economic downsides on lockdowns. There have been severe upturns in excess drinking, in suicides and in depression due to lockdown, so where is the cost benefit analysis of this? Benjamin Franklin said, "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." Look at the illness, tuberculosis, (TB). A total of 1.4 million people died from TB in 2019 (including 208 000 people with HIV). Worldwide, TB is one of the top 10 causes of death and the leading cause from a single infectious agent (above HIV/AIDS). This was published by the World Health Organisation, https://www.who.int/news-room/fact-sheets/detail/tuberculosis yet we have not seen lockdowns due to TB. My husband's maternal grandmother died of TB and some of her children, leaving my husband's mother motherless at the age of 10 years and younger children still in the family. My husband's paternal grandmother also had TB and the children had to get regular X-Rays to check they did not get it. This was 70 and more years ago.

I'm feeling optimistic now that we have a president who respects science, is honest about the dangers of the pandemic, and is doing his level best to get the vaccines to everyone quickly. It's working, too - we already have millions of doses given to everyone. My husband and I have received our first shots and will get our second next week. Looking forward to being able to do a few things (cautiously) and see friends who are also vaccinated. Definitely a light at the end of the tunnel.
