Out of the Mouth of Babes - My Grandson

Before I begin, let me point out the original usage of those words...

Although Jesus quoted them to the hypocritical religious leaders of his day, the words were taken from Psalm 8:2. Those hypocrites were denouncing the young ones at the cleansing of the temple Jesus had performed.

Jesus statement in full was, "Did you never read this, ‘Out of the mouth of babes and sucklings you have furnished praise’?"

Now to my misquote...

My wife had asked me to pick up a couple of things at the local grocery. Later, just before I left, she asked, "Do you have my list?" I had responded, "Yes, I put my list in your pocket." You see, I am 1. getting old, and 2. I had not been focusing my thoughts. When I realized what I had said, I laughed!

In the hearing of my grandson I said, "I said the exact opposite."

My grandson said, "No! The opposite is I put my pocket in your list."

He was RIGHT! I was wrong! I was amazed. Why so? What was the big deal at his revealing the subtle error I had made?

He is six years old.
