Ever Heard of DIAMONDOIDS?

Diamonds are a girl's best friend, so goes the saying. I always kidded, diamonds are a dog's best friend... doggy diamonds (poop).

But all kidding aside, there is such a thing as a diamondoid . In fact, there is a variety of diamondoids. Contrary to what you might think, these are not tiny diamonds or diamond derivatives. And, no, they bear no connection to hemorrhoids. (Why must I always return to potty humor?)

Diamondoids are hydrocarbons. That is, they are compounds consisting of hydrogen atoms and carbon atoms. Hydrogen, you will recall, is the smallest of the atoms, significantly smaller than carbon atoms.

Well these diamondoids are special, because they have a structure that is a relatively close match to the pure carbon Diamond. Give 'em a sudden squeeze, and what do you get? You've guessed it!

But I write in much greater detail on this subject, providing graphics and other material and references in the Decoded Science article:

The Diamondoids: Adamantane, Diamantane and Triamantane - Practical Application?

I hope you'll give it a look-see... Thanks.
