Oh deer!

OH DEER INDEED! What you see here is the damage done to my car when I collided with a deer a few days ago - and it was all Meghan and Harry's fault!

Last Saturday was, of course, the royal wedding and Mrs Kasman and a couple of friends had been invited to our daughter's house to watch the wedding ceremony.

After it was all over there was much dissecting of the proceedings particularly who was wearing what, who looked the most elegant, etc. This involved quite a few remarks like 'Where did she get that hat!' and 'Look at those shoes!'

The merriment continued into the late evening until it came time for all to go home so Mrs Kasman and I duly made our way to the motorway and headed for home. By this time it was very late, there was almost no traffic and it was pitch dark since this motorway has no street lighting. The only illumination was the car's headlights.

A few minutes into our journey a vague shape appeared in the headlights and BANG - it was all over before we had realised what had happened: we had collided with a deer.

You can see that the damage is confined to the right-hand front corner of the car so it was pretty much a glancing blow but at 60mph that's still a fair thump. If the impact had been full on the airbags would have gone off and the car would have been undriveable. As it was we were able to limp home slowly.

The car is now in the repair shop being put back together. Insurance will cover the cost but the sheer inconvenience of not having a car when we are so used to one is quite frustrating.

PS: The deer was a Roe Deer which are common in Scotland and are about half the size of a red deer which fact mitigated the impact somewhat. Sadly, the deer did not survive.

Did you enjoy the occasion? I know the women did, but did you? I'd have been bored to distraction. Ah, what we don't do to show our wives we love them...

I didn't watch it - I was out and about with my camera!

Sorry you had such an encounter. It must have been quite a shock.

I think the biggest shock will come from the repair bill. We have an insurance excess of £250! emoticon

Oh deer, indeed.

Well, it would seem that it being dark the deer probably thought the coast was clear before your fast red sports car zoomed by at 60. Glad you didn't get injured and good that your car will be fixed without issues.

Apparently, this is the peak time of year for vehicular collisions with deer. Just my luck to be one of the victims.

Perhaps a thinning of deer population is in order, and with that the increasing sales of deer meat at local restaurants and meat markets. Just my 2 cents.

This is the second time I've collided with a deer. It first happened about five years ago - I'm doing my best to thin out the deer population of Scotland!
