Seeing the Humor in the Illegal Modification of Signs
Most illegal activity is repugnant to the average person - particularly if it involves serious violation. But some illegal actions can make us snicker, if we're honest. The following are some sign changes I've seen that hit my funny bone hard! Can you add to the list?
I used to walk to school, passing a sign that read, "Holl's Funeral Home". I was told someone with a slingshot knocked off a few letters, so it read (for a while) "Holl's Fun Home".
In the Charlottesville, Virginia area, was an overpass sign that read, "Virginia is for Lovers. A graffiti artist altered just one letter of it, so it read, "Virginia is for Losers".
You've seen those El Cheap-o church-style signs with the magnetic letters, no? Well, a local purveyor sells homemade fried chicken! The sign read, "The Chicken Coop". Well, after the letters were rearranged on a regular basis, they bought a new sign. Why? Because the vandals stole one letter and rearranged the others to read "The Chicken Poo".
Well, in the 60's, I was riding with my friends when we passed the Two Guys department store in New Jersey. Don't ask me how they did it, but someone closed the loop of one letter so it read "Two Gays".
