Remembering Abbott and Costello

Many still recall the names Abbott & Costello. We realize they were one of the finest classical comedy teams, appearing in Burlesque, radio, TV, and the movies. Yet few of us are aware of events in their lives that shrouded the personal happiness of these two entertainment icons. For example: were you aware that the 1 year old child of Lou Costello drowned in the family swimming pool? Were you aware Lou died at the tender age of 52, while his wife died even younger, at age 47?

Or were you aware that this great team were active in entertaining members of the military, only to be rewarded later by losing their very homes to the IRS?

I learned much of what I do know from the biography film starring Harvey Korman as Bud Abbott and Buddy Hackett as Lou Costello. It was an excellent film.

Go on! Watch it. The film is located here on YouTube .

I had certainly heard of Abbott and Costello but didn't know about the hard luck they suffered.

Meg, if you've only HEARD of them, you owe it to yourself to watch the flick or to download one of their flicks. I'd suggest "Abbott and Costello Meet Frankenstein," located: https://archive.org/download/abbott_and_costello_meet_frankenstein/abbott_and_costello_meet_frankenstein.mpg It is free.

I have watched that Frankenstein movie many years ago. I didn't know about the personal problems of either of them. Sad how some peoples' lives go wrong through no fault of their own.
