Every day is an opportunity to do things right and not make the same old mistakes you made the day before.

Waking up was never easy

Starting the day is even harder for many Americans after Hurricane Harvey hit Houston and later that week, Irma fell onto the shores of the islands and Cuba and more important, the state of Florida.

Nobody saw it coming

Certainly nobody knew where it was headed.

Every day is a new day

When I get up every day it's like God gave me a second chance. So with that in mind I face the new day with no hesitations, but I am often slow to get started. Reaching my 60th birthday in October I know I am reaching the tail end of that life time yard stick.

I saw a monarch butterfly the other day

And it seems to think it is still springtime in Dallas, Texas. There hasn't been any rain in the past few weeks and none is expected in the next 10 days from now. So, early morning a few days back, before I had to get labs done I found it appropriate to wake up at around 5:30 AM and give the lawn a soak. The two Sick-a-more trees out front are doing okay in spite of the dry season. They have a tendency to break off large branches at the top when a storm with strong winds blows through my neck of the woods.

I didn't have coffee for the past 2 days

I read online that having a slightly elevated blood creatinine level could still be controlled with a proper alteration of daily dietary habits. I had a cup of green tea instead of Folgers hot brewed coffee. I am fond of coffee. Don't get me to lyin' but there is a thing I recently read ab out online about caffeine having a tendency to perhaps do some damage to compromised kidney function thus raising serum creatinine levels. If there is any credence to this I will find out in a few months after I have given up temporarily, that smooth silky taste and replace it for now with tea.

Missing my coffee and having a headache from coffee withdrawal

Poor baby. Yea. I get that. I should be focused on deeper realities but this post isn't about things that serious. Although kidney function can be compromised after over 2 decades of taking Lithium and being taken off it at the direct orders of my doctor's supervisor at the clinic I go to once every 3 months for labs and medication followups. I read also that Lithium taken for a few decades can and often does cause a degree of kidney function reduction so at about age 60 and headed to my sunset years, I don't want to risk anything so I will take each day forward as an opportunity for me to make up for many years of past mistakes.

Seeing blue skies above and green grass below

I know that God made this day for everyone but I am personally grateful that in spite of all the horrors of the recent storms people have come together in prayer, doing good deeds for those in great need from their major losses, it's a good thing to drive by the local Fire House down the road and seeing a group of firemen in uniform, in a circle praying with their heads bowed down and their eyes closed showing respect to the memory of the fallen on the anniversary of 9-11-2001. Dark Tuesday. But yesterday was in fact, A MONDAY.

Yes, one day at a time, one step at a time. I was very tired this morning (babysitting granddaughters overnight and we had some problems during the night and a very early wake up call!), so going for my usual morning walk after getting one to school and one to nursery was quite difficult. I decided not to take the camera and to just put one foot in front of the other to get around the 3 mile walk. Of course, there were 5 great camera opportunities I missed! Oh well, at least I got around.

What about those powdered coffee substitutes? They are made from toasted grain. And they really aren't bad. I'm not kidding here. I used to drink them myself.

Taking a walk just for the good of it is best. You always feel a sense of satisfaction for a good walking workout just to stay healthy.

Hmm. Sounds like a good alternative. I might look into that. I love coffee but then it is very addictive. either it is emotion behind this or there is a real physiologic addiction to caffeine.

Thanks for the link. I will look for it on Amazon. Maybe it is available at the local supermarket.
