Gnats to You!
I'm 68, soon to be 69. My family tree resembles a Bonsai, rather than a Redwood. My parents both died younger than I am. So I expect something to get me just any time.
Last year I experienced a slight attack of ventricular fibrillosis, but family history suggests cancer is the overwhelming favorite.
But the single thing in the past couple of years that has been on the increase with me is skin issues. I developed a degree of Psoriasis. It appears most notably on my left elbow.
Recently, this year, I developed severe breakouts on my hands and wrists. I was due to go to a dermatologist and had an appointment. But, immature as it may be, after I had waited 3 months for my appointment, it was cancelled by the UVA doctor for what I imagined was a petty reason. So I decided that doctor was not for me.
Then I came to believe my difficulty was perhaps external. I thought, maybe dust mites. Perhaps in my mattress/box springs/etc. But that didn't seem to meet the criteria.
So I thought: bedbugs? They're easy to get. You can bring them in on used clothing items from thrift shops. But, no. You can eventually find a bed bug if they're the culprit.
Fleas? We have pets, but in ever-diminishing number, and they were not the problem.
What then? Finally it dawned on me and appears to be verified. Believe it or not: GNATS.
If you suffer during the night from some a sense of crawling on the skin, and sufficient bites so you lose sleep, consider the possibility it is these things. You see, I am rather, uh, rotund. The area just below my naval sometimes becomes uncovered and bites were occurring there, as well as intense itching.
So, GNATS to you gnats! I know my enemy. I will win the fight!
