From Shocking to Unconscionable to Good News

In August 2015, I shared a post about the life in Nigeria. It was not a happy post. But it was about matters that I wanted not to be forgotten!

I must admit that I never thought that I would be able to do a positive follow-up post and share good news. I was in my Facebook account cleaning it up, scanning the post stream, etc. when I noticed that news was Trending about Boko Haram. I expected the worse. To my surprise this is the headline:

Dozens of Girls Kidnapped by Boko Haram Have Been Released | BuzzFeedNews

These young girls had been snatched from their families by a terrorist group in 2014. I genuinely never thought there would be a report of their release. It is May 6, 2017. The article was published 6:17 PM. Just had to share this. "Where there is life, there is hope."

I was very glad to hear this. But their ordeal is not over yet. Many of the previously released girls were not reunited with their families and they have been through great trauma and may have difficulty fitting back into their communities. I hope all the rest get released plus all the others who have been kidnapped.

The release of those hostages in and of itself is MAJOR! We all thought those girls would either die or become sex slaves, and they would be completely forgotten.

I don't know if any of them can read this or if someone around them who wants to help can read this. But here is what I want those girls, who I consider my sisters, to understand:

~ Yes. You have been through trauma.
~ Yes. You will probably continue to go through more trauma.
~But never let anybody make you believe you that you're not a valuable human being and that your life does not matter.
~ You are free! There are only two ways to live each day of life. Rise up or don't live at all.

Choose to RISE UP!!
