Resuscitating Persona Paper

A Great Article Site

As most of you will know, I have taken over responsibility for PersonaPaper, which includes keeping the domain and hosting accounts up to date. So far, I have not touched the coding because (a) it's written in PHP and I still haven't managed to wrench my daughter from her drop shipping business to look at the coding for me and (b) except for a few hiccups, which appear to be an occasional database problem, the site is running well - thanks EliteCodex - and why fix what ain't broken? Members on PersonalPaper have always said it was a great social site and that they enjoyed writing here.

Of course what most people writing on here would like, is a regular, fantastic income from their writing. Advertising income is not what it was and at present, the site is not getting enough visits to justify even asking for advertisers to take advertising space. That means there is NO POSSIBILITY OF A PAYOUT anywhere in the near future. The site is not making any income, so there will not be any payout until expenses can be covered.

What benefits you may ask? With no adverts, there is no slow down in the articles being sent to your browser, so the site is a lot faster than it used to be. Also, we don't have to worry about adverts containing objectionable material or browser hijackers.

So What? And What About MY Benefits?

So, nothing new. Why are you posting? For a couple of reasons:

1. It may look like nothing is happening, however, I am working in the background to get links to the site and also to make it more "visible". That's a slow job.

2. I CANNOT get good links to articles written in poor English, with the minimum number of characters and no pictures. If you want to see traffic to your articles, you need to make them interesting and attractive. Please feel free to keep posting short articles if you want, it helps to show that the site is alive but you won't get the most benefit from your writing.

3. I cannot emphasise enough that all articles must be UNIQUE. Plagiarism is not allowed. You must NOT copy work found elsewhere and post it on this site, even if that writing elsewhere is your own. Copying an article means you are using someone else's work as your own. You wouldn't like it done to you. Copying someone else's work includes copying a paragraph or sentence from several places and putting them together. You can certainly write on any subject even if 100 other people have done so, but it must be ALL YOUR OWN WORK. Any sources must be properly cited or credited. Contributors who continue to offend will have their accounts removed.

4. If you use a photo or graphic, it must be your own or it must be available for use on commercial sites (like Persona Paper), that means it must either be in the public domain or have CC zero (CC0) rating. Kasman 's article at and at cover this well. You MUST provide a full link to wherever you got the photo from. Saying "Pixabay" is NOT enough. If ever the site starts to earn enough to pay contributors again, articles with uncredited pictures will NOT get paid until the accreditation is correct. It's easier to get it right in the first place. You are NOT allowed to just take any picture off a Google search and use that.

And MY Benefits?

Yes, I am coming to that. Most sites do not allow you to link to other sites and take away visitors, however, as Persona Paper is not currently paying contributors and is not showing advertisements, authors can include one link to another (family friendly) site in their article: and if they are reviewing an item, they can include a link for example to their affiliate page on Amazon, which gives you the possibility of earning something from there. So, for example, say you have an article on red widgets on HubPages, you could write a short (UNIQUE) article about red widgets here on Persona Paper and link to your HubPages article for people to get more information if they want. If you are an Amazon affiliate, you could include a link to your webpage giving more information on Red Widgets, where readers could buy them, for instance. It is not possible to add the Amazon link direct to this page.

I am still here. Although not very active. I continue to be impressed by this site. It is one that seems to stand on it's own merits. If enough writers were willing to participate here even though not earning anything at the moment, it would be a good place for others, readers and writers alike to enjoy a good read that is both free of ads and fun to spend a casual moment on the web.

MegL wrote on April 20, 2017, 2:18 AM

Yes, you're right, however, I recognize that most writers want something for their efforts.

lookatdesktop wrote on April 21, 2017, 11:12 AM

I write at one site for a few bucks a month to help with coffee expenses. I write here just because I like to contribute something to a site that inspired myself and many other writers who shared insight in my life as well as others just because they cared. But ads are necessary to generate revenue and if there is a possibility of earning something and enough people contribute to a writing site there will be more future participation eventually. You heard the saying, "Build it and they will come." There has to be some level of incentive for any writing site to gain support by new writers and keep them coming back. Ads are what make it possible. Without ads, I am sorry to say, a site will lose following and take a back seat to those that have paid something. I think there is potential at this site to both provide quality social interactions but it will take time to gain momentum and ads will have to be added. Even bloggers like to earn a few pennies so they start off small but in due time with more social interactions, more substantive posts it tends to grow and if ads work well the site benefits the blogger and becomes self perpetuating.

What you are doing is commendable MegL !

Keep it up!

MegL wrote on April 22, 2017, 2:45 AM

Yes, ads will have to be added but I need traffic in order to attract ads and it's eyeballs I am trying to get at present.

MegL wrote on April 22, 2017, 2:54 AM

Thank you allen0187 . It's a slow job but there is still traffic coming to the site, need to increase it!

I still love it here, I don't write as much as I used to since my offline life is so busy these days but I will do whatever I can to help keep this site going and maybe make it even better! There has been very little money in writing online for years now but thanks to sites like bubblews people think the money is still there and that's what they should be getting, they need to remember the reason they just up and disappeared one day owing thousands of dollars to people - the business model was totally unsustainable.

MegL wrote on April 24, 2017, 2:11 AM

Yes, indeed. Thanks very much melody23 . I love reading your articles on hospital life.

Colibry21 wrote on April 24, 2017, 6:30 AM

It is still a good place to be. I may not very active, but I am still here from time to time. Hopefully, people will slowly come back, or new people will discover this place. Hopefully things can change. Thanks for keeping this place running.

MegL wrote on April 24, 2017, 10:27 AM

You're welcome, it's good to see people still coming to the site and taking part.

The problem with PersonaPaper when I was active here was that it was not SEO-friendly and made generic or organic searches difficult. On the Internet if the search engine can't find you, then you're invisible. Searching at this site and/or using a search engine like Google is not easy. That has not changed much. Although I should not complain. To my surprise when I Googled "", my user name "cmoneyspinner" actually popped up in the search results and I wasn't even looking for my stuff. That's a first! (O.o)

I always liked this site. But left to become active at other social sites that pay. Your last paragraph makes me glad that I did not close my account here. I think I will come back now that I know there may be some income potential. I'm being honest. I really liked this community. But I have to live with my husband. :) I only left Persona Paper because the monetary incentive was removed. But now I'm back! LOOK OUT!! Here comes trouble! Just kidding. :) :D

MegL wrote on May 6, 2017, 9:34 AM

You're welcome. I recognise people need money and I am trying to promote the site, to make it attractive to advertisers. You can put a link on any articles (family friendly) if you want.

AliCanary wrote on May 8, 2017, 9:53 PM

Thanks so much for all you do! And it is pretty cool that you can at least give us a platform for linking to our potential paying sites. I'm still mad at Google--PP might have been the a huge site if we hadn't been hobbled right out of the gate. I'll try to get my butt out of the mud and make some posts.

MegL wrote on May 9, 2017, 2:43 AM

Thanks AliCanary . One of your articles on this site is a high ranking keyword article :)

AliCanary wrote on May 9, 2017, 8:55 AM

Ooh! Which one? I can write more about that subject.

MegL wrote on May 9, 2017, 1:46 PM

The ones on metamucil

AliCanary wrote on May 9, 2017, 2:30 PM

LOL, great!

BarbRad wrote on May 11, 2017, 7:49 PM

Thanks for the update. I may try to update some of my nothing posts and start linking again. I'm trying to get serious about Twitter, and I've learned a lot more about how to use it. I've also seen how successful the Review This Reviews site, to which I contribute is with it's use of a Twitter hashtag. If we have a core of active members here who use Twitter frequently, We could start using on the best of our posts when we tweet. That would enable the rest of us to search the hashtag, open it in a separate tab, and retweet our favorite article conveniently. I keep my favorite hashtag feeds open in the free version of Hootsuite so it's always there. It's a great tool for scheduling posts. If we make a concentrated effort to help each other as many blogging groups do, we might see more visits. Maybe I'll write about this.

MegL wrote on May 12, 2017, 6:15 AM

That would be very useful, thank you.

BarbRad wrote on May 12, 2017, 3:22 PM

I updated and tweeted an article yesterday but I'm not likely to update anymore of them. When I went into edit I lost my photo, which I'd gotten from Pixabay. The Pixabay search didn't work here so I had to find a new photo on the Pixabay site. It's just oo time-consuming to update posts that have photos not on my computer. When I tweeted, I did use the hashtag so other members can find and retweet easily if they so choose. It's easy to do a hashtag search from Twitter, and even easier at

MegL wrote on May 12, 2017, 5:53 PM

Thanks. I must get into using Twitter more.

AliCanary wrote on May 18, 2017, 9:12 AM

Barb, the image credit is at the bottom of the article, so you could bring it up on a separate tab before editing your post, then simply add it back. It's a separate step, but it beats searching all over again.

Huh. I had a feeling something was different. Congrats on taking the helm. This CAN work and be, incredibly lucrative for us all. Let me start by offering to 1) zero out my balance on those coins, 2) I would be glad to sell advertising onto the site (It can be coded so as to be region specific, I believe.Somebunny correct me if I'm wrong) and 3) Ummm...three...oh heck. I'll think of something. :)

You called me back psychically, didn't you. Haha.

MegL wrote on May 30, 2017, 5:33 AM

loudman , while I have "taken over" the site, I cannt, at present, get into the coding. The site is running exactly as elitecodex programmed it. Your offer to cut coins to zero is appreciated but I can't do it. My aim at present is to send traffic, build the site up and if I can do that, THEN find a coder and some advertisers to get it earning.

LoudMan wrote on May 30, 2017, 1:07 PM

Okey-dokey, artichokey. :)

LisaSteinmetz wrote on June 18, 2017, 1:18 AM

Now that I know it's not shutting down I'll be sticking around. I only left because I read that they were closing the doors here.

MegL wrote on June 18, 2017, 4:38 AM

Thanks LisaSteinmetz . Look forward to your articles.

I have come back to this site in the last week. I started by reading recent posts and have been impressed by the dedication that some of it's members are showing to getting it up and running well. I am back and will be writing and connecting. I believe that t0he care and work that is being put into making a thriving site is well worth the effort and would like to be a part of it.

MegL wrote on June 24, 2017, 10:26 AM

Thank you haze . Welcome back. Look forward to seeing your posts.

Hi! I have a site suggestion! I'm not sure if there are any history writers on PersonaPaper, but I noticed there was not a category for history on the browsing section. Do you think it would be a good idea to add? I would like to write some reflective-research-articles about domestic life and practices in America and Europe, starting with the 16th century. Let me know what you folks think!

MegL wrote on July 28, 2017, 2:00 AM

Hello EmilysPen , that would be lovely to see some history articles. You are quite right, there is no specific category for those but how about putting them under "Random" or "Writing"?
