There are 20,000 claims and they are rising fast!

Cyclone Debbie

I have not written about this before, but there was a big cyclone in Queensland and it brought a lot of rain and wind to the neighbouring states. Our garden in front of our flat is looking nice and green now. I lived through a big cyclone in the Caribbean a few years ago and it killed many people and destroyed houses and crops. It was the same with Cyclone Debbie and watching the news I could see many cars parked with water over them. I also saw a big house sliding away, destroying a big tree next to it, making lots of noise and then slowly it ust went past with some people on its roof! It was dark by then, but rescuers still came and answered the rescue call, saving those peoples' lives! In the end, people very thankful and thanked the rescuers with tears in their eyes! Some people had no insurance for their home or business, but those who had just waited for the money from insurance companies to come, so they could rebuild the damage.

Some people had no insurance for their homes or business, but those who did sent their claims and apparently they already have 20,000! With their ruined furniture and possessions on the road outside and tears in their eyes, desperate people just waited for the insurance to send some money to help them restore the damage. It was sad to watch them, but soon we will all have to pay extra for some of the crops that were ruined, like bananas.

I'm so sorry for people whose homes are damaged or destroyed by events like this. Even though it's "just stuff" and people's lives are obviously more important, it still upheaves their lives and decimates their sense of security.
