Editing my book

Last summer, I started writing a book. It's a murder mystery that I've had in my head for years, and never really got to really finishing it. Well, last year, I was determined to do it. I began working on it last summer, and finished my first draft last fall. Probably around the end of October, and the beginning of November. As I had written by hand, I began typing it onto my computer, while also editing, adding, and changing things. I'm not quite done my first edit, but I've been doing it on and off since then. I was quite happy to finish my first draft. I was proud to have finally pushed myself to write it down. I'm still happy that I did it, and that I'm still working on it.

As much as I am happy to work on my book, and as much as I am enjoying it, it can be hard work. It hasn't been easy balancing writing with my family, work, and all the other commitments that I have. The editing and revision isn't quite easy either. I know I have a lot of work to do on it, and it is quite daunting. But that's what has to be done.

At least, I finally manage to start the process again and to continue with it. I've procrastinated long enough.

Do any of you ever written a book? Or thought about it? Or know someone who has?

I have not long finished my thesis, that was book length. I have written light romance but nothing published. All the best getting on with it.

Finishing your thesis would definitely be like finishing a book. Congrats on that! You must feel relieved to have finished it. Hopefully you get to finish and publish some of your romance stories.

At least you've found other interests. These websites must keep you busy. Thanks for keeping this one up.

You're welcome. I am trying to get this one more active using social media and there is a bit of a pick up. Let's hope it continues.

Yes. This is a personal journey. It can be done. Even when I thought i might never complete a story or novel, I learned by practice to continue to grow a story and eventually I will write a novel, as to it getting published, that will be the icing on my cake, so to speak. But the journey is a personal one. We all have to decide on our own, if we are willing to go the long stretch, to write something that has enough substance and duration to make it as a full length book. It's hard sometimes to become motivated an as a writer I just keep saying to myself, it can be done. You just have to commit to it.

It would be nice to see more activity here. Fingers crossed!

It really is a personal journey. You put it really well. You always have to be committed to see any project through.

I am writing a book also but I have no idea, when I will finish this sort of academic book for Grade 11.

That's great! I hope you are able to finish soon.

I started writing a book years ago and got about 27 chapters into it. It's in the thriller genre, so they are fairly short chapters--I am about a third of the way through it. Unfortunately, one thing and another thwarted me and I lost my motivation. It remains unfinished, but I definitely haven't forgotten about it. Best of luck on yours!

Too large a venture for me. I'd prefer (if I felt up to it) to write mystery short stories. But they require a different sort of mind, I think.
