Dimethylsulfoxide - DMSO: Curative or Quackery?

During the 1960s and until today, the simple, relative non-toxic chemical solvent DMSO or dimethylsulfoxide, was found capable of transporting medications through the skin that by themselves could not achieve that result.

Not only the route, but the avoidance of certain side-effects because of avoiding another route, made this concept quite attractive. This was quite popular to many physicians. Yet, the AMA and the FDA were not impressed. Why not?

And why did the sudden rise of DMSO become its nearly as sudden fall? Please read my entire article on the subject at DecodedScience.
