Just three shifts to go

I have just three more nightshifts to go until I start my annual leave. It has worked out that I am off for two weeks, back for two weeks then off for another two.

The reason this has happened is because it was so difficult to get annual leave in my last job due to us being so short staffed that I have still got 20 days left to use before april. Since in my line of work a week is only three days that is over six weeks!

It has worked out really well except for one thing. My partner has just found out he is going away on a course for one of the groups he is involved in and I can tag along if we pay for my accommodation (his is paid through the grant that pays the course fees) guess when this is? The week before I start my second block of annual leave!

I could ask to get it changed but I wouldn't like to do that at this short notice. There is a small chance that I might be off those days anyway but I will need to wait till I go in tomorrow and see what the rota says. Failing that he will have to go on his own. Since he barely leaves the house himself other than to go to this group, being away for four days is not going to be easy for him but it will be good for him and maybe make him less anxious.

Isn't that always the way things happen! Hope it works out the way you want.

I don't know whether to suggest to you that retirement is the answer? Retirement's great, but what comes along with it isn't.

I couldn't stand night shift. It does remind me of a Stephen King novel though. lol

It's definitely worth asking for; I hope it works out! sounds like a good opportunity for both you and your partner.

It really is, the course only runs once every six months so no chance of him getting his dates changed and I am working nights as it has worked out so he will just have to go himself. I actually think it will be very good for him, provided he can get through it

If only I could win the lottery so I could retire. I do love my job mind you, I really don't know what to do but one thing is for sure, I wont have a great pension when I do eventually retire assuming I don't drop dead from being overworked, underpaid and under appreciated before then. I love working for the public sector really

It is definitely not for everyone, but fortunately I quite like it

I don't like to ask for things to be changed at such short notice, especially because I picked the dates for my annual leave in the first place. he will just have to go himself I am afraid because it is far too good an opportunity to miss.
