Yes, I have wifi !

DAY TWO OF our touring holiday of Scotland and I finally have a wifi signal! The hotel we are in in the highland town of FORT WILLIAM has, as many hotels do, free wifi - but you have to find it first! No, really, internet access in the Scottish highlands and islands is notoriously poor and often it is the case that, although a hotel gives free access to the internet, it depends on where in the hotel you are sitting.

In this case I can get internet access in the lounge bar but that is always busy and I'd rather not stick out like a sore thumb as the only anti-social person in the room with his nose buried in his laptop. The very nice and helpful young lady at the reception desk did say that the room we were in did have access but we certainly couldn't find it - the photo you see here is Mrs Kasman on our balcony searching unsuccessfully for a signal for her tablet (and was most annoyed when she couldn't find one - and I thought I was the techno-geek in the family!).

As it transpired, the hotel was having trouble with its wifi reception and no-one was getting consistent access to the internet but nobody thought to tell us that. The problem was eventually resolved early this morning but we still couldn't get the promised access in our room! Eventually I had the bright idea of moving from the desk near the room door to the table next to the balcony doors, a distance of about 15 feet and bingo - I have access!

So now I'm online and can write about our holiday except that, according to a speed test, I am getting less than one-tenth of the speed of access I get at home and that means that photographs in particular are very slow to upload so I may not be including too many in my forthcoming posts. Still, here's one at least to whet your appetite. It's a view of Loch Creran near Oban taken from the SEA LIFE SANCTUARY which we visited today.

and here's another, of part of Loch Linnhe, which our hotel room overlooks:

In two days we will be leaving Fort William and heading further north to Loch Maree for a three-day stay there. Let's hope that the hotel we are in at least has wifi access - but I won't hold my breath!

What gorgeous scenery. Thank you for finally showing us your wife. Glad you got your wifi. I had that problem once in a motel in Oregon.

Well, I'm sure you find the trip well worth whatever comes up (though I'll be the first to admit electronic devices *are* addicting).
