On my way home today I saw some chickens and heard a rooster.

On my drive back home from the Kroger store today.

The sounds of wind blowing in the empty parking lot, whistling, this reminded me of days gone by.

I was enjoying this sound. So pure and it brought back memories. I was in a place far enough from regular traffic that it felt almost like I was in a small town where the wind was the only thing you heard on a sunny day.

Then I drove a little farther. and heard the sound of a rooster, and looking to my right there were at least 3 chickens and a rooster in the fenced in yard. A young boy, about 10 was walking about the yard among the chickens. Then about a half a block farther I looked at a yard full of tall corn as if it was some place in the open country of the pan handle of Texas where farms are everywhere and open prairie lies out as far as the eye could see.

Once again I heard that whistling wind blowing. I thought to myself, 'How fortunate I came back to Kroger today to pick up those 2 doughnuts that we forgot to take home after checking out at the store.' My wife sent me back to pick the up and they were at register 8 and a man named George handed them to me. I just had to ask the courtesy clerk, "Did any one take bites out of these?" He just shook his head and I walked on. Now back to the trip home from Kroger.

After seeing those chickens, and that back yard full of corn plants, I drove farther down and noticed a row of tall Sunflowers standing next to each other along the walkway to the house's porch.

You don't see this on the main drag. It's nice to be able to take the road less traveled, even if it's just a back street in Oak Cliff. Then the finale came when I made a turn down one more street to go around the back side of my block and I looked over to the left and saw 2 police cars, parked out in front of a house, both officers standing and looking pretty serious at each other. I drove past them thinking, 'Glad they aren't shooting guns off.'

When I finally came into our driveway, I noticed my thermos had fallen on to the floorboard and water had spilled all over the carpet. I figured no biggy. It's only water. It will evaporate.

I went inside with those two chocolate covered cinnamon buns and made a glass of cherry Dr. Pepper.

I thought maybe you were dreaming. If it were me, I would take that road less travelled every day.

No it was real. I usually took the main road that has 6 lanes of traffic 24/7 but today I decided to take that road less traveled. lol
