Not Your Standard John Henry Story

As a youngster, I thrilled each time I got to see the George Pal puppetoon rendering of the folk tale of John Henry . Although the religious concepts were not quite spot on, the moral concepts were on the mark.

But just minutes ago, I saw a new John Henry. A modern rendering emphasizing qualities of perseverance and hard work. But is it not entertaining? You better believe it is! Give it a shot. I'm sure you will feel the time was well spent.

It is presented from the perspective of an African American folktale, rather than simply a fictitious character. Enough. I know not many of you will see this, but I invite you: watch, the YouTube presentation of John Henry .

Yes, indeed. It was an entertaining production. I liked it. Of course my favorite is still George Pal's rendition.

I will check out the other version next. A 1946 animation. I would never have seen this if you had not introduced it. I am glad I had this chance to watch. Both versions were inspirational. I liked them both.
