Based on article by Natasha Clay, in Peru.com
Have you ever heard of this tourist spot in Pasco? Perhaps some of you are even having difficulties just saying the name, but it’s one to add to your list of places to visit sometime.
The remains of the ancient holy city of Goñicutac represents one of the most important tourist attractions in the Pasco department. At a height of 3,600 meters above sea level, it can be found on a mountain overlooking the Chaupihuaranga gorge, in the town of Rocco.
Travelers and photographers are drawn to the origins of the construction of this city, that dates back to the year 1200 AD. Pertaining to the Yaros culture, the town of warriors was very much influenced by the Wari culture.
The place was chosen by the Yaros because of its mild climate and strategic location. Goñicutac can be found in an excellent condition and is perfect for travelers that appreciate history, culture, and architecture.
