Poem: Our Last Day
I wrote this shortly after things ended poorly for my past summer fling (whom I am now on speaking terms again for those who had followed my posts about him back in July/August). I found this and felt it appropriate to share, especially if anyone else has gone through something similar with someone they felt deeply for.
Our Last Day
You lay your head upon my chest.
I brush my hand through your hair.
You complain it’s a mess
But I think it’s perfect.
Sleep fills your eyes,
I can clearly tell.
“You should take a nap”
I smiled as you yawned.
Staring me in the eyes,
You agreed.
But one last cigarette
Before I leave.
We stand on your porch,
Gazing at the smoke
As it leaves our lips.
I stare into the distance.
You notice something wrong.
You pull me in,
Told me to stop being sad.
“I just wish we had time”
You understood.
Our schedules conflict.
“One day we’ll have our day together”
I tried to reassure myself.
You convinced me we would.
I lean on your chest
Hiding my frown,
My arms tightly wrapped around you.
If I had known
That would be the last time
I would have never
Let you go.

That is very nicely written and it is sad about a relationship that is no more.

The poem is like reliving the day you spent with the one you once loved. Sad but not bad, A mix of bitter and sweet.
