The "Affluenza" Family
By now, you may have heard the story about the 16-year-old boy who used the Affluenza Defense when he was charged with killing 4 people and injuring several others while he was out driving drunk one night with his other misguided and privileged friends a few months ago.
He was back in the news again recently when he and his mother fled the country due to the fact that he had violated his probation by being in a place where alcohol was being served and possibly consuming some of it.
One of the most pathetic things about this whole thing is the way his parents have coddled him and catered to his refusal to take responsibility for his own stupid and dangerous behavior. This boy killed several people due to drunk driving, yet because he and his parents are rich or affluent, they seem to feel that he shouldn't be held accountable for any of his crimes.
His mother helped him escape the U.S. to protect him from being arrested, and when they were both finally found, he managed to get a lawyer who requested that he not be extradited back to America from Mexico right now to answer to his probation violation. But his mother was brought back to face the part she played in the violation.
It appears that this boy always gets his way, not only from his parents, but from the whole judicial system.
