Art: Beauty or Function

I am not sure that I would call this "art," but it seemed like the best category to put this article.

I have a bunch of yarn skeins and scrap yarn in a lot of different styles, weights, ages and lengths. Much of it seems like the old orlon yarns from the early 1970s. I bought a huge bag of this from EBay several years ago, and paid about five dollars plus shipping for it all. I have been teaching myself to crochet.

I remembered one of my favorite aunts--Aunt DeeDee--making a ripple afghan using scrap yarn. I thought it was the coolest thing. It is sort of like the crazy quilt, but for crocheters.

Well, that is what I am doing. When I get tired of one color, I tie it and start in with another.

It may not be "pretty" but it will definitely be functional. RGD has already laid claim to this, when I finish it. He said that he would use it as one of the layers on his bed at night, so he will not freeze when he turns the heater down to 50F degrees.

I think it is very pretty. I know the basics for crocheting but that is it. I have one from my grandmother that is several colors

I think your afghan of many colors is a brilliant idea. Each will be one of a kind, unique and special.

Afghan with many colors is a good idea-like ''coat of many colors.''

Is RGD trying to save a lot of money on his heating bill by turning the heat down to 50 at night?

This is like my 'yarn sculpture' I am still working on.
