100 Hits a Day

Far and away my most popular current article is What is the Difference Between Soap and Detergent? I'm receiving between 200 and 250 hits per day for it.

Surprisingly, quickly on the rise is Hückel's Smallest: The Aromatic Cyclopropenyl Cation . It is receiving 100 visits per day! Now stop and think about that. Look at the title. Would you say to yourself, "Oh, Hückel. Oh, the cyclopropenyl cation. I've been waiting for just such an article. I must drop everything and take a look at it."

No, neither would I, except for the fact that I am a chemist. Even then, I might think twice. Nevertheless...

What is it about this article that makes it a winner? Frankly, I don't know. Do we ever KNOW? Perhaps because it is an extreme. It is the smallest. Perhaps because it is historic. It goes back to Hückel of the 19th century. Perhaps because it is the next best thing to an anomaly.

Whatever the case, it is one of my best. So drop everything and look at it!

You have really struck gold with you quirky science articles. Who knew in this day and age that so many were interested in real science?

Your wish is our command! Keep up the good work! emoticon :winking:

Ah, oh most exalted Grand Poobah, it is great you paid a visit to my most humble of articles! Much appreciated.

Perhaps they slipped and hit the wrong button during their search, !

That is really great! I have been looking around here and have not seen that many hits on any article no belonging to the site owners...lol

VinceSummers wrote on November 20, 2015, 2:30 PM

Not on THIS site, . On QuirkyScience.com -- my own home site. There.

Oh, okay... I was wondering... I had the first post on Bubblews to go viral... over 3,000 hits on one post..

VinceSummers wrote on November 20, 2015, 3:06 PM

It was that way at the first. But my own site hasn't got hundreds or thousands of writers. At present, it's only me! So a thousand is quite a few. Quite a few.

I forgot to mention that on Yahoo! Contributors Network, one individual had her article go viral. A QUARTER MILLION hits.

Aromatics - outside my realm of competence, I'm afraid!

Unfortunately most of us are ill equipped for quirky science writing which is specialized. There just doesn't seem to be a general alternative to PP except for MyLots which is even less than a real writing site than PP.

It can easily be explained within a half hour, but there has to be an interchange of conversation and some drawing.
