Telephone Call Proved to Be Exciting

There are phone calls that we dread. We have all gotten them.

Bill collectors. Telemarketers. Family and friends share bad news. Employers need us to come in our days off.

But once in awhile, you get those phone calls that make you happy. I just had one of those.

My friend, who is the contractor for the project we have been working, just called so we could talk business.

The first thing we shared was conversation about the hotel we stayed in Dallas. I sent her the link to my Yelp review of the property to read for herself. She has made a decision about future stays, and will likely write to Wyndam corporate.

We also talked about the project itself, the contract, and about the possibilities for us to move forward in the future.

Speaking of future, we discussed other things for me to look into as I enter 2016 and make the decision to be an independent contractor, and what is needed. She gave me ideas and paths to consider.

  • Becoming DiSC certified
  • Liability insurance
  • Equipment to have

I look forward to this next year with new purpose. It comes with an element of risk and the unknown, but I think 2016 will be the year I do more of what I am intended to do on this next leg of the journey.

These are the phone calls that I would like to continue...

An awesome and productive phone call indeed. I do have one question about it though. What is a DiSC Certification?

Nothing ventured nothing gained! Let's hope you get more of that type of call!

DiSC is a personal assessment tool that is used by many companies, psychologists, coaches,'s designed to help improve communication, teamwork, and eventually, productivity. It is like some of the Myers-Briggs training, but just a different tool that looks at personality and behaviors. Having the certification will open up some new avenues for me, as it offers "credibility" to some of what I already know/do instinctively. Certification = more money, as well. But it's a bit of an investment, as all things of this nature.

I'll drink to that! emoticon :winking:

That's a great kind of phone call, the kind you don't mind getting even on the weekend! emoticon

The sad thing is that, as you said, encouraging calls like that are mostly a "once in a while" experience. The other kind come much more frequently.

Don't you love it when things work like they should?

How exciting -- new ideas, new ventures! I don't blame you for looking ahead with optimism. I wish you the fulfillment of your goals both big and small.

That is all sounding great. Looking like you will have an exciting year ahead

K, having more experience with large companies, has been through Myers-Briggs and some of the other similar programs out there. I haven't any exposure to them other than what she's shared. I am familiar with similar tools educators can use to categorize what kind of learners our students are.

I'm happy to see you got an encouraging phone call. What is DiSC certified and is it hard to get this certification?

A phone call with potential; those I like!
