Before The Rain Came

This photo was taken on the shore of the lake Z, K, and I are camping on this weekend. K joined us this morning. Z and I got here and got set up last night.

Earlier this morning Z and I went down to the general store to get some bait and wound up getting breakfast at the little grill adjacent to the store. The restaurant is take-out only but the breakfast biscuits and tater tots Z and I got were very good. We did remember to get bait.

Though it is cloudy today and has since begun to rain we were able to go down to the lake shore and do some fishing before the wet stuff started falling from the sky. The fish must have known the storm was coming because they weren't biting.

One awesome thing did occur while we were fishing; a Bald Eagle flew right over the spot where Z and I were sitting. There are a few bald eagles who make the lake area home but spotting one in flight over the lake is rare. Though we caught no fish, seeing the eagle made our morning.

Once the rain started we kept fishing for a little while but the rain kept coming down harder so Z decided we should call it a morning and head back to camp. The timing couldn't have been better.

We got back to camp, got the awning set up, made coffee for me and tea for Z, and had just gotten settled when K drove up and joined us.

The rain is coming straight down right now, is not that heavy, and there is no wind to speak of so we are able to stay outside under the awning and enjoy the cool fall air and the calming sound of the rain on the leaves in the forest around us.

My heart goes out to those folks in South Carolina who are getting more rain today.

Glad your camping has started out fair so far. Hope the rain passed quickly

That sounds peaceful. Sometimes, the weather doesn't matter, as long as the holiday is relaxing.

I think it is surprising that the fish weren't biting during the rain. When I went fishing before as a kid, I remember the fish biting very well in the rain.
