Mud and McConaughey

Tonight I finally watched the movie, Mud , with Matthew McConaughhey, Reese Witherspoon, Sam Shepard, and others.

This would be the kind of movie that would be good to review in a college class and do an in-depth analysis of each of the characters.

This is definitely not a "chick-flick," and think that many men could identify with this "coming-of-age" film, with teen characters Ellis and Neckbone. It was a tale of friendship, adventure, and some tough life lessons.

(Note: Due to the subject matter, violence, adult language and sexual references, this is not a family film. It is rated PG-13.)

I have not ever been much of a McConaughey fan, nor did I understand why he was People magazine's 2005 "Sexiest Man Alive." I do think, however, he was great in this role as Mud.

I am looking forward to Dallas Buyers' Club next.

No, jiangliu1949 , it is definitely not a "family film," as the content has violence, adult language, sexual language.

I have seen Mud. Interesting film. Liked Sam Shepard. Reese Witherspoon is different from her usual persona.

I have to admit I never heard of the hid movie "Mud" but the next movie you mentioned is from the headlines of that time if I remember all the interviews that were about it.

Yes, it was interesting. I have to admit that I did not like it as much as I thought I would, given Loudman 's recommendation, but it was interesting to see such a male perspective of coming-of-age... for all the male characters. I really liked Shepard a lot in the film. And I liked the boy who played Ellis a lot.

It's not very old...two years maybe? I have DBC on order.

CoralLevang wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:17 AM

If not for Loudman , I would have missed this one.

McConaughey won best actor for Buyers Club, and I think that the Supporting actor was from that film, too...last name Lepto, I think.

The boy who played Ellis is a young Texas actor named Tye Sheridan. I just saw him in Joe in which he plays a teen with an abusive drunken father and finds a mentor in ex-con Nicolas Cage who has issues. Sort of in the same vein as Mud.

CoralLevang wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:22 AM

Better be careful or he will be type-cast as the abusive drunken ex-con mentors and fathers. LOL

lexiconlover wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:35 AM

Jared Leto? I think that's who was in it with him.

JohnRoberts wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:36 AM

Actually Tye Sheridan is now a young man and graduating to those parts.

JohnRoberts wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:37 AM

It was Jared Leto who won the Best Supporting Actor Oscar for Dallas Buyers Club.

CoralLevang wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:37 AM

Exactly.

CoralLevang wrote on October 5, 2015, 10:38 AM

Yes, that's it. Couldn't remember.

LoudMan wrote on October 5, 2015, 11:29 AM

This is all you have to say on it? Shocking. LOL! AND, I never said it was a "chick flick." I said I initially mistook it for one but, it's much more.

And, that's how his name is spelled? (LOL I never knew how to spell it.)

I didn't say that you said it was. It was definitely a male version of that flick...I refuse to say what I am thinking. LOL
And yes, this is all I am saying. It was an okay movie, but it didn't wow me. but in the comments, I've given them all kudos.

I was thinking it was about Dr Mud, who treated Lincoln's assassin. Wrong again!

Other than reading your posts in which you mentioned it I am not familiar with this movie. I may look to see if it is on Netflix but the movies I want to see usually are not.
