New Here and Content

Hello!

I'm new here, and appreciate the few welcomes on my intro post.

I was chomping at the bit to start here, so that I could see if I would be more motivated to blog or write for my portfolio without a direct assignment. Each day I was checking my mail for almost a week for the approval. Then, I was approved just as I was going to have to go pick up my daughter from college the following morning for fall break. So, the last two days I have not worked. But, I think I am content. Happy to have a little downtime with my kiddo. She is also a writer, better than I am in fact, and I may have to have her check this place out.

Before I start blogging, or writing on topics (perhaps as my warm up in the morning with coffee for motivation), I see this is a pretty social and laid back atmosphere, so I'll say a little about me. Admittedly, I am actually not my favorite topic.

I am an amature genealogist in my spare time (when I have some).

I began my adult life pursuing an education in Communications and English to be a writer, but I ended up being a portrait photographer for quite a few years.

I began writing for the Net in 97 to be able to stay home when my daughter was little, and have been doing it on and ever off since. The last few years I had a main client for whom I ran the website, the information, the e-mails, the letters, the content and so forth, but he retired. So, since this past April I have been freelancing full-time.

I have been a jewelry designer for about a decade.

I like Pina Coladas and getting caught in the rain.

OK, actually I really don't like either of those things but it always just seems right.

Wow, you have quite a lot of experience writing! I only started in 2008, writing for a site called Associated Content that eventually became Yahoo Voices. There are quite a few of us here from there (the site was shut down in July of 2013). I've been here for a good while, so as an "oldster", I will give you my best advice, which is to visit as many posts as you can and leave comments on everything! Not only will you receive a coin for each comment you leave on someone else's post, you will also effectively introduce yourself to a lot of the other writers, who will come check out your work. Welcome to Persona Paper!

Everybody likes pina coladas but not everybody likes being caught in the rain! It sounds like you will have a lot to right about here.

You have a great back ground for writing.

I joined about three months ago and love love this layout. It is more laid back than a couple of the other sites that I have written for, but it's a nice change. The people , for the most part have been very welcoming and warm.

I too have a genealogy passion.

I look forward to getting to know you better.

Thanks everyone.

Ali, I appreciate the advice. Getting started is always the roughest time...in anything. So, to have an "oldster" give me some insight is greatly helpful to me.

Right now I am doing a lot of Mill/Agency/Rev-share news stuff while seeking a new client (or three...lol) to take me back up to my former income. Hopefully I will find another somewhat local client, which makes life a wee bit easier.

I had my online start at a few places, such as Suite101, BellaOnline, Studyweb back in the day. Then I took jobs and clients locally where I could use my skills. 08 was a turning point for a lot of people, myself included, so I hear you there. :)

I enjoyed reading this piece. I, like AliCanary , started with Associated Content, in December 2008, if I remember correctly.
I, too, dabble in making jewelry. I enjoy the repetitiveness of creating rosary beads, though I am not Catholic, and I like the instant gratification of making earrings.

You have a varied and interesting resume, with, I am sure, lots of great experiences to share. I don't like pina colada's either. I don't like coconut at all. I don't mind getting caught in the rain, but I am against fishing in the rain.
