No Blackberry Festival for Me

I had every intention of attending Bremerton's Blackberry Festival this weekend. I found it to be too cold yesterday, could not seem to get the motivation today to make it happen.

It has been rather a blah day.

Yesterday, when I met RGD for coffee, we decided to get some Mexican food for dinner, and I was able to get the DVDs back to him so that he can watch them before they are due back to his library system.

After dinner, we went our own separate ways. I decided to check Walmart for the tall plastic laundry baskets. I have my vision on three to make it easier on the plan to throw away, recycle, and give away, as I make my way through boxes that I never unpacked when I moved nearly two years ago.

They had some great options, but none were less than $9.97. I will have to check out one of the local outlet grocers, where I have seen them before, as the Dollar Tree did not have them. To spend $30 on three of the cheap, plastic baskets seems a bit foolish to me.

Tonight's big plans?

Figure out something to eat, and watch a movie or two I checked out on Saturday from my library. Maybe I will run (actually, drive) to the grocery store to see if I can get some blackberries to pretend I went to this year's festival.

Have a great evening (or day, for those halfway around the world).

Don't you hate it when you look forward to something and then you end up not going for whatever reason (you don't feel well, the weather doesn't cooperate, etc.)? So sorry you couldn't make the blackberry festival.

Those blackberries is the photo are causing me to nearly drool on my side of the screen. : )

Bremerton. Bremerton. That name sounds familiar. Isn't there a big U.S. Navy base nearby?

wolfgirl569 wrote on September 7, 2015, 10:49 PM

Sorry you did not make it to the festival. Hope you can find something cheaper for your sorting. That does seem high for what you will use them for

Just looking at those blackberries makes me very hungry for them. I haven't had fresh blackberries in many years.

Plans not pushing through - I'm no big fan!

Good idea about sorting your stuff and grouping it in those three categories. I'll do the same.

FourWalls I try not to dwell on it, and adopt the "it is what it is" reminder to let it go. Thanks, there is always next year!!
I am looking forward to getting to our state fair this month, though!

Yes, alexdg1 . It is part of what is known as Naval Base Kitsap now. About 10 years ago, they merged NavSta Bremerton and SubBase Bangor in order to provide better support and services throughout our region. I'm sure it was also a financial move, as well. It is part of Navy Region Northwest, so it also includes other installations closeby such as NUWC Keyport and more. Bremerton is home to two of our aircraft carriers. I have also seen a couple of our older decommissioned carriers at the Shipyard over the years. That reminds me of my "old days" when I was in the aviation community in the Navy, and I knew many serving on the Coral Sea, the Connie (Constellation), and the Shi**y Kitty (Kitty Hawk).

I'll likely go out on Tuesday morning, back to Grocery Outlet to see if I can find something. If not, I may look for some of the smaller tall trash bins that I can use for that purpose, as long as they aren't too small or too big. Later, I can use them for more specific recycling. Even though we have recycling here on base, I don't like to mix it, and there are some things they do not accept, such as styrofoam and certain plastics. I'll save those, and take them elsewhere when I have enough.

I never realized that they did not have berries when I lived on tropical islands. Makes sense. But I loved the things I could find that grew "wild," e.g. coconuts, avocados , hot "boonie" peppers, bananas and more.

Thanks, allen0187

Paulie wrote on September 8, 2015, 4:33 AM

You mentioned living on Guam. Which other tropical island did you live on?

Rufuszen wrote on September 8, 2015, 5:00 AM

The Blackberry picking season is just about on us here

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 7:55 AM

I lived in Hawaii (Oahu) which can still be classified at tropical, for the most part.

Sorry you didn't make it. Your talk of the BlackBerry festival reminded me of the Apple Festival that's in Portland every October. I had forgotten all about that. We have festivals here but they are usually seafood based. Not that I'm complaining.

lexiconlover wrote on September 8, 2015, 8:46 AM

Have you tried a thrift store or Wal-Mart?

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 10:08 AM

Walmart is where I went (with the $9.97 tall cheap plastic bins). Have been looking at thrift stores, as well.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 10:09 AM

Oh, yum. Seafood Festivals we also have. MY personal favorite.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 10:10 AM

In my area, there are many of the fruits that didn't come in as well with the no moisture and scorching early summer.
I love berry picking...and eating. LOL

Rufuszen wrote on September 8, 2015, 10:26 AM

We've had rather a wet summer here, so should be fairly good pickin', I think.

LeaPea2417 wrote on September 8, 2015, 1:00 PM

Black berry picking does sound fun. There is a town not too far from us that is known for it's apple picking. I would like to do that sometime.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 1:47 PM

Sounds like a fun excursion or family day!!

Sometimes our minds want to do something but the body does not want to go along. It happens. I had such a day yesterday that I need to write a post about it. Where I will post it, I don't know. But it was one of those days.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 4:24 PM

I have had several of them lately. I wish we were closer in miles so that we could go out for a walk and to vent.

Walk'N'Vent A new health craze. emoticon :winking:

inertia4 wrote on September 8, 2015, 4:28 PM

I like that new craze. Sounds good to me. I know. I am all the way on the other side of the country. Bummer. But we can communicate here and maybe other sites as well.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 4:34 PM

Or, perhaps, email, as well. I am often tired of the public aspect of these sites, without room to contact people directly.

DWDavisRSL wrote on September 8, 2015, 6:02 PM

I hope you were able to find some more reasonably priced baskets.

CoralLevang wrote on September 8, 2015, 7:12 PM

Still, no. I'm heading out in a minute for another place.

PriscillaKing wrote on September 13, 2015, 5:35 PM

Blackberries in September? Awesome.
