Mice in the House

I got a mouse problem.

Friday night I was awoken to the horrible sound of something scratching, running and chewing in the walls and ceiling. It was freaky! I laid in bed listening to it, wide eyed and totally creeped out.

Mice freak me out!

Saturday night, the same thing happened, but it was worse! There was more scratching, chewing and running! I thought they were going to chew right through the walls!

Saturday night I slept an hour.

Sunday I changed bedrooms; I moved to the bedroom at the other end of the house. I at least was able to sleep Sunday night.

I have three cats that are barn cats and excellent mousers. However, they tend to spend way more time outside than inside. I've started keeping them in as much as possible, but they don't like it much.

The cats will eventually help with the mice problem, but it's going to take time, and I'm not sure how they are going to get the nasty mice in the walls and ceiling (I guess wait till they come out)

Poison would take care of the problem easily, but it's far too dangerous and I definitely will not use it. If a poisoned mouse gets out and my cats, chicken or a wild animal eats it, they will die too.

I'm thinking maybe some live traps or something up in the attic area may help.

I've never dealt with such a serious mice problem before, I'm going to Google it and look for some suggestions on ways to get rid of them quickly and safely.

Look for the sticky traps, they are at least a little more humane than the others.

Wow, you can actually hear CHEWING? I feel like you are creeping yourself out a bit much. They do cause damage, though, so good that you have cats.

Once we lived in a rented house where there were mice and I could not sleep a wink. They were very difficult to get rid of and I was so happy when we moved. Good luck to you and I hope you get rid of them.

Glue boards/sticky traps are very effective but you do have to deal with disposal. We used them when I was an exterminator to clear out a major mouse problem at a movie theater and within a week the mice were gone.

Yikes. I hope you have solved this problem. We live in mouse country and have to be vigilant!

That has happened in our house and it scares me too. My husband bought mouse traps and poison which has helped a lot.
