A Writer's Go-to Topic

Author's Note: I want to thank Kasman for the idea for this acrostic poem (first letter of each line spells out a word or phrase). It was his comment on a recent post that inspired me.

W hat, I wonder, should I write?

H ave nothing to share, not much insight.

A t times, I wish to please and amaze.

T he reality is that my eyes are glazed.

I f I had a penny for each word I write,

H ope would schedule an international flight.

A las, I have not a clue now what to say,

D are I try for another day?

F irst things, first! I sit to ponder

O pen my mind to here and yonder.

R eminiscing first, then to what might have been,

B urgeoning demands for stories of kin.

R estless now to tell life’s truth,

E choing chatter in my head is proof.

A fter all, however, I cannot share,

K eeping secrets is all that’s fair.

F inally, when words start to flow,

A ll that some folks want to know…

S crambled eggs and a piece of ham,

T ogether, with toast and strawberry jam.

I don't know why, but acrostic poems are some of the easiest for me to write. It's as if it gives me a foundation.

Thank you, paperdaisyflower7 . For me, it gives me a structure. It also requires me to be extremely focused. I have written several over the years.

This is a great poem for someone who doesn't know what to write. If I am going to write a poem, I should start with an acrostic one.

Love it! Scrambled eggs, ham, toast and strawberry jam sounds pretty good to me!

Paulie I find that acrostics give me the way to figure out form.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 5:50 AM

valmnz It would sound good to me, too. If only it had not just been a poem. LOL
