The Subway Guy Jared Fogle Throws Himself Under the Bus

It is difficult to understand how iconic figures in our lifetime can rise to fame so quickly, and fall out of grace in even less time. Sometimes, it is due to the fickleness of a fan base.

There are others, however, who made decisions that make us all want to slap them upside the head and ask, "What the heck were you thinking?"

Jared Fogle, 37-year-old former spokesperson for Subway Restaurants, has done so much good to raise awareness regarding childhood obesity through his non-profit agency--Jared Foundation--and sharing his personal success story of weight loss. He was the face of Subway since 2000, after learning of his "Subway Diet."

Yet, with all the good he did over the last decade and a half, he was his own worst enemy.

Last month, Jared Fogle was investigated by federal and state police on issues of sexual crimes and child pornography. Two months earlier, the director of Jared Foundation, Russell Taylor, had been arrested on charges including possession of child pornography, and child exploitation.

Fogle will plead guilty on charges of possessing child pornography and traveling to pay for sex with minors, involving at least 14 minors. He has agreed to serve at least five years and make restitution to the victims, as part of his plea.

In a world where fame can easily wax and wane, this is one instance where Fogle will join many others who have fallen. His story of success will long be forgotten, now that he has gained the notoriety of his recent admission.

Sad but now we know why he was so worried about children being obese. He was a sick twisted person

Sudden fame and a whopping income stream take down a lot of people who can't handle the pressures. It's always a bit depressing to me to see someone who has had a positive image turn out to be a crook. Gosh, a pedophile is a very long fall from the top of the heap.

I agree, Feisty56
How does it feel to be known for this, and lose your family, and all the other things that go along with it. His current wife is a school teacher. Just unbelievable on all counts.

It's unbelievable to think of the fallout from this for the family and loved ones of Fogle and the Foundation head, let alone the victims and their families. Talk about collateral damage. In some ways, it's almost too bad these men will be in prison and not have to witness the shame and repercussions those affected will be living.

Your post make me realize that I live under a rock. This report on Jared Fogle is news to me. Good thing you stay informed. Thanks for the information. I was clueless about this!

Well, as I understand it, pedophiles are not treated with the same "respect" in the prisons from other inmates. They are both going to be in deep shi*.

It's a shame. I have to admit that it wasn't until someone I know asked me if I had heard about it. I quickly looked it up, read more than my share, just to get the info and big picture, and found out more and more. Then all I could think of is the fall to shame.

I had heard a little of this, but didn't know the details.

He had so much going for him. He had been over weight, learned he could lose weight by eating Subway Sandwiches, lost the weight and had the backing of Subway (a national franchise),,, he was an inspiring role model,, and what did he do? He threw it all away for a perverted sexual thrill! It just does not make sense. He could have gotten a woman his age. Why did he have to stoop so low?

CoralLevang wrote on August 19, 2015, 10:09 PM

LeaPea2417 I do not condone his actions, but in the mind of the pedophile, it is not as simple as a "perverted sexual thrill." I agree that it does not make sense. There is much more to this than what meets the eye.

This is just an amazing jaw dropping story in a bad way. It's just goes to show about images presented on screen aren't real. Friendly regular guy Jared provides inspiration not to mention increased sales for Subway and all along he was a pedophile.

CoralLevang wrote on August 19, 2015, 10:53 PM

JohnRoberts I know. But it also reminds me that the images any of us portray to others may not be real. We all have our demons.

Paulie wrote on August 20, 2015, 2:41 AM

Considering the cases of Fogle and Cosby, these are people who threw away their fame and legacy just for deviant sexual behavior. There are so many others who have done the same thing.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 5:57 AM

Yet, we do not do the same to people like Pres. Clinton who bragged about his deviance (phallic cigars rumored to have been given to world leaders to smoke together with him) and his numerous situations that were an abuse of power and much more. Such disparity in what and whom we hold up to different standards.

DWDavisRSL wrote on August 20, 2015, 7:09 AM

And all those who were being helped by his Foundation will be cast adrift and those who took motivation from his story will feel betrayed. Very sad all around.

CoralLevang wrote on August 20, 2015, 10:47 AM

DWDavisRSL Yes, it is horrible.

Paulie wrote on August 20, 2015, 11:54 PM

Clinton is still popularly liked by many people, and it was surprising how he got such a quick pass. Maybe not, considering how Gore lost the election of 2000 to Bush.
